Who here is playing Thursday and any stories of the rivalry? If you're not from the northeast you're probably thinking who cares, but it's hard to explain the importance and history of these rivalries unless you have been apart of one.
My alma mater and where I currently coach now, Westerly HS (RI) will be meeting Stonington HS (CT) for the 151st time Thursday. It's one of the oldest rivalries in the country and is most meeting of two teams ever. Stonington leads the overall series 68-65 w/ 17 ties. One unique aspect of the game is that the schools are from different states, but are bordering towns. About an 8 minutes ride between schools.

151 -- that's incredible.
And I thought my alma mater in Mass celebrating their 100th consecutive year (Thanksgiving Day since 1915) against their archrival was pretty impressive.
It's a fun week of football up here in the northeast.

Me vs. Grandmas Holiday Spread...the game plan is to play it slow, be discipline in movements, attack the white meat early, and once I'm comfortable with the flow, dive into the pecan pie...

It's the 151st meeting between the schools, but this year is the 99th year. We started in 1911. The reason for the extra 52 games is that they use to play on Veterans day as well and really early on between 1911-1920 they played 3 times. Since around 1965 is when it became only once a year. Thats why 1911 is one of the oldest but not THE oldest. We have the most meetings between teams though in the country.

We take our crosstown rival on tomorrow at 10 AM... we win, we're in the playoffs, we lose, we're out. I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight.
