Last night we played our final JV game of the year. Keep in mind out staff coaches both JV and varsity and we prepare the JV based on what the varsity team does. The team we play this week run the I and some shotgun stuff. So we prepared for that with the JV's too. The other JV team came out and ran the DOUBLE WING We were only able to stop them twice and they only ran 4 plays. Super Power, Wedge, Counter, and 2 passes. I have heard much about this offense on this sight but this was the first time I saw it in action. It makes for boring football for the fans, but man was it effective, and really fun to watch the execution of it as a coach. We got beat 27-7, but after last night, I am a believer in the DW, but dont get too excited I doubt I will ever switch over to it!!!LOL

This was my first year coaching at the Freshman level, and one game we were completely suprised when a team came out and ran the double wing against us. They had to have had over 500 yrds rushing on us, our kids had no idea where the ball was half the time.

Its a mass of humanity in there! This was the first time we have ever seen it, and had no idea how to defend it. By the way, for future references, can any of you Double Wingers give me some ideas about what gives your trouble defensively? Thanks if you are willing to share.

Realdawn & Ronkend, I to have been in that situation back in 03'. I was attending Fresno State and I was coaching at one of the local h.s. coaching the freshmen when we went and played Clovis East. Anyone who know's DW coaches, know's Tim Murphy out of Clovis East. It was the school's third year in existence and by half-time the score was 42-0. That was the 1st time I've ever seen it. I like the DW because you can outnumber the defense at the point of attack. Like the toss play you have 5 guys blocking at the point of attack. That freshmen team, were seniors last year and missed to go to the state championships in CA by 1 vote to De La Salle. I got the chance to sit and talk with Coach Murphy this past off-season and if I eventually get my own program I would probably run DW.

Coach Calande..I want to learn DW.....where should I look first? Teach grasshopper! I suggest you study everything you can get your hands on and there is a bunch of material available. You can get photocopies of "The toss" from Jerry Valatton, pitch and trap, sweep and reverse, tapes from markham, Wyatt has dynamics I, II, III, IV and his videos are nice to look at , Tim Murphy has a very popular system and his teams are wildly successful. My system is very popular and successful at all levels and includes such things as practice and drills manual, clinic dvds, chalk talk and coaching tips dvds, a dw manual/playbook and of course ongoing support and discussion forum. Ill be doing another spring/early summer clinic this year and might even consider taking a trip to Jerome Dublin hs in Ohio this March to talk at the 3rd annual roundtable there. make sure you visit www.doublewingonline.com and double wing for dummies forum and my war room forum. Lots of experienced dw coaches there. Its all good stuff. Obviously I like my system best or I wouldnt sell it and promote it. There are some good things in all of the systems.
