To what extent do the parents participate in Senior night? Do they make a week of it with posters, breakfasts, decorating lockers (or their cars)?
I'm asking because this is what our parents are doing and trying to see if this is the norm or over the top.
I think it's over the top.

As long as they stay away from practice....I say go for it. It's the parents last football game too.
To answer your questions, our parents are honored at 1/2 time with their players. Our student council and cheer leaders do the posters and such. (I like the breakfast idea)

In Texas this is a weekly occurrence. When I played the parents decorated the field house every week and things like that. It helped them feel apart of the program. Now that I'm coaching I think it helps parents buy in and feel like they're able to give something to the program. All that to say I don't think that this is over the top as it was a weekly occurrence during our game weeks. As for senior night our parents just stood on the track with us as we were announced. It's the same where I coach now. Not over the top at all. Those parents give a lot to the program just by virtue of having a kid involved. They just want to feel a part of it. As long as they're not coming up to me and saying put little Johnny in or run this or that I'm fine with it. If they want to decorate by all means knock yourself out.

Same deal here. Lockers decorated, cars, etc. Seniors and parents are honored just before kickoff. I'm okay with it, but stay away from practice.

Our SR Night Activities: Monday- nothing
Tuesday- nothing
Wednesday- Pizza catered to fieldhouse after practice and coaches and SR's get a little fellowship time with no one else there.
Thursday- Booster club rents out a local establishment with go-carts, games, batting cages, etc. and the SR's and their parents go to have a good time and take pictures. Our coaches do not go b/c the place serves alcohol and we like our paychecks.
Friday- 15 minutes prior to kickoff the parents line the field with the underclassmen as the SR's gather in our blow-up helmet. Instead of reading off a bunch of stupid stats and accomplishments out announcer just goes down the list of SR's: "#1 Joe Smith." The Head Coach shakes their hand and they run the tunnell to an ovation.
Our approach is minimal b/c we stress that the GAME is most important. I have seen overboard and I would say your parents are normal for most places.

Some may like this or some may hate this. Our school has not had senior night for at least forty years. This "tradition" has lasted through 3 different head coaches. The only complaints have come from some parents but the players don't want it.
