In an attempt to find some info on camps, I found "descriptions" of some various camps (meat markets, glorified daycare, etc.) but I wasn't able to find any suggestions/advice.
Can anyone suggest a quality (fundamental instruction and leadership) team or individual camp... preferably within the Midwest? It doesn't have to be a "big" college camp or a commercialized (big name) camp... Thanks for the help in advance.

UW-River falls always put on a team camp in the summer. I'm not sure if they still do but it was a good camp not a meat market. You can try there. I know we have a camp here at UW-La Crosse but I'm not sure if its a team full pads camp or what kind of camp it is but you can look into that also. Some of the D3 camps are a lot better because they aren't looking for only the top players they are there to teach fundamentals and make every player better, not just the ones they want on their team.

well there are two three that I'm aware of in the midwest. one the Univ. of Nebraska camp I'm not sure what month it is but I hear it's pretty good and it's a 7 on 7 type of deal as well as a team camp kinda expensive though.
also there is a camp down at So. East Missouri (Semo) that is a full contact camp that just started I believe last year contact the coaches for that one.
then there is I pretty good full contact camp we attend at Central Methodist Univ.(CMU) in June is a great way to build team unity and find out what type of ball players you have early on in the summer. the cost is $120 per camper you can stay on their campus for the weekend and play somewhere around 15-20 controlled scrimmages with about 10-15 plays in each. when I say this is alot of football in a short period of time I mean it . but it's a great experience. and they take good care of you at the camp contact their staff on details as well. there's usually 20-30 teams there and like I said it's pretty good.
then there is the Lindenwood Univ. camp it's a 2day camp it only costs I believe $60-80 per camper but they don't provide accomidations. and it's also full contact and you'll get 10-15 scrimmages plus what they call the "Lion challange" it's a points sudden death type of scrim. you successfully gain 5 yds you continue and face a different Def. if the Def. stops you, Off. switches the best of 3 wins the round. then there's a 25min full out scrimmage each day. so it's pretty fun but I'm an Alumni of the school so I like attending it.
but these are the one's I know of I hope this helps

for individual leadership, see the Jeff Trickey QB camps scattered in the mid-west. If you can do it, do Darin Slack in Chicago....
Upper Iowa used to have a team camp, but I doubt they still do it, and it really wasn't valuable for our kids.
Augustana College in Rock Island, IL usually holds a day and a half team camp in July.
Wayne State in Nebraska offered a pretty decent venue (but like all college programs, it was really just a 'camp'). Here is video from that [gvid]7948017537667890782[/gvid]
i WILL say, the TEAM camps are a GREAT way to get around the 'no contact' regulations of yankee states that will not allow you to meet with your players in a contact environment. It provides you a way to have "spring ball' even when it is 'outlawed'. You get around the stipulation because it is labelled a "camp" or "clinic", charging admission.
Even if you square off against horrible opponents, if it is a TEAM camp, you get a jump on the season and can install your base stuff ahead of time (and try out different players).

there is a great team camp at the University of South Dakota. They usually have three sessions which are three days long. Their coaches are great to work with and they do a great job working with the kids. their website is www.usd.edu

I would second the USD camp. Also UM-Duluth has one that many of our conference schools attend and like.

Have you been to the CMU camp? Any more details? Is it just a chance to scrimmage or is there "coaching" from CMU/camp staff to improve fundamentals/mechanics?

Two really good ones in Indiana. Have not been to this one yet, am going to go this year. Several good friends/good coaches have highly recommended it. The IU team camp they say is very, very good. Coaches are very involved and let you run your stuff with in their setting. Limited size, 2 sessions about $220 for 3.5 days. Indiana Option Camps- team or individual. www.iwafootball.orgAwesome Option Instruction these are both Pro-Pads and get pretty physical.

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls puts on phenomenal camps in the summer. They have a Kickers camp in June that is very well coached by collegiate special teams coaches and NFL kickers, punters and coaches. Gary Zauner is usually there. Also, in July, there is the UWRF Big O and Big D Team Camp. Individuals are also welcome. It is an awesome team camp that is attended by schools across the Midwest. They also incorporate a Wishbone team camp with Big O and Big D as well as another Wishbone camp closer to Milwaukee. The cost for the camps is very reasonable and actually inexpensive for the work that the kids get and the fundamentals and lesson they take from it. PM me and I can get you in contact with the HC at River Falls.

I know Grand Valley State Univ up in Grand Rapids MI has a great 3 day Lineman Camp in July sometime. Bring in college and NFL oline coaches to help run the camp. From what I have heard it is a great experience.

A lot of good team camps in Nebraska/South Dakota that I know of first hand: These team camps have individual instruction time with college coaches, plus team time, scrimmage time (generally 5-6 30-40 play scrimmages) and 7 on 7 O/D line competitions.
Wayne State Coll (NE Nebraska). Good team camp. 10-14 teams usually. 2 sessions. Towards the end of June.
Hastings College. Middle of June. Have heard a lot of good things, but haven't been there.
U of South Dakota. Like Struceri said... good camp. Similar to Wayne State (and the others).
Chadron State (western NE). Similar to the others. Good camp as well.
UN-Kearney also has a team camp. I think theirs is pretty much the same as the others.
Our team has attended USD, Chadron and Wayne. I would recommend all three.

wlfootball,
that camp at CMU is really just a bunch of controlled scrimmages ran by the players and staff at CMU there isn't much coaching done by the staff there but it is a great way to see what things and player you have going for yourself, so that once you really start you fall practices you won't waste time trying to do things that won't work for you during the season.
I wished I'd went this past season b/c we struggled offensively b/c of lack of experience on the OL and QB spots. so .....we found out the hard way. but the coaching staff is around and they give pointers here and there.
Now at Lindenwood it's ran similar to the CMU camp but the staff will usually chime in when neccessary with anything well atleast they did with us...lol

I was always impressed with the UW-Whitewater camps. As an athlete I attended them from 8th grade through my senior year and then I coached the camp for one year when I got into coaching.
Not sure how the camps are run now though with the coaching changes.
