Hey Fellas,
I am a second year coach at a small High School and I have been preparing my things for the day I become a Head Coach, hopefully i happens. And I have a question, concern, problem. I have based my system on the basic double tight wishbone. I'm just in the process of designing my blocking scheme and it just came to me that I only have 2 maybe 3 true formations. The first is obviously double tight Bone and the other the double wing formation. Now I know I can go broken bone and unbalanced to get another aspect to my offense but what other formations can you get out of a three back offense without changing the offense, and its blocking schemes or is it even necessary? Maybe it because I'm a younger coach that I don't really know where to go but I hope this is not a foolish question. Any input is appreciated

I would check out some of the Air Force type teams playbooks. You can download these from this site, also you might want to consider having some sets with 21 personell or 22 personell.

First, congratulations on making the endeavor to be a better coach than you were "yesterday"!
my advice is.... When you build your playbook, do so with the "other side" in mind. I guess my personal opinion is building a package that can dish out more than it takes. Lining up in formations and running plays for the sake of running plays makes us feel warm and fuzzy inside as coaches, but the whole point of building YOUR playbook is directly related to YOUR PHILOSOPHY and how you will use your philosophy to attack your opponent. Is your playbook "bullet-proof" to what you will be facing in your conference? Does it offer inherent flexibility to deal with your typical competition, or is it set-in-stone-rigid? If the latter, then what are you really hoping to accomplish.
Personally, the flex-bone stuff of Navy should offer some flexibility in attacking defenses. What series do you plan on hanging your hat on, and why?
If you're willing to think a little out of the norm, look into some of the spread attacks and how they use the QB as the "third" back in their run game.
