I've read several post where some one will accuse a certain tactic or play of being "bush league". Exactly what does this mean. From most of the posts it seems to mean that the other team is taking advantage of opportunities they are given, albeit some what"creatively"

Depends what the topic is. Stealing signals I do not beleive is "Bush" as long as it's done during the game. If you are taping the other team's signals then thats a different story.
The thread about the "fake subsitution" play I feel is definitly a "Bush League" play because it is breaking the rules.

It's an empty argument, and sounds like something a fan would say. "That coach doesn't know anything, everything he does is bush league."
Ignore it.

Everyone's take on "bush league" is different because a bush league action is something that violates the game's "unwritten rules". The problem is, people have different takes on what the "unwritten rules" are!

I think that people say stuff like that when they cant come up with an answer to stop certain things. I mean its just like when people get on Madden or NCAA and run the same play over and over. While it is just a video game and those people are taking advantage of the games play engine it is your job to stop it. Same goes for these so called "bush league plays", its your job to stop it. I to would run something that I would work over and over. Call me "Bush league" all you want.

Here are a few definitions that I found that I think represent what people mean when they use that term.
1) unqualified substandard amateurish ineffective incapable useless ...
2) being of an inferior class or group of its kind : marked by a lack of sophistication or professionalism ...
3) lacking class or dignity
The term is certainly thrown around in many situations where I don't think it applies. But I do often witness activities within the coaching profession that are clear examples of this term.

I believe "Bush League" is actually "Busch League" and was used because the NASCAR use to have two leagues, one was the Winston Cup and the other was the Busch Series and acted like a minor league to the Winston Cup Series. So someone saying that something is "Busch League" they are referring to something that would be done at the lower or minor league levels. I don't actually know this for a fact but it sounds like it could be right.

Actually, it's Bush League, and derived from baseball's "minor leagues" a long time ago, when often the teams were populated with guys who were playing for fun, and not as true professionals, and the play was less than stellar, and often riddled with "amateurish antics".

Bush League actions include:
- Running plays that you know will score a touchdown against a team that is getting killed when the clock and timeout situation would allow your team to take knees...BUSH LEAGUE
- Hurry-up offense late in a situation where the game is clearly out of hand...BUSH LEAGUE
- Onside kicking when you have the game out of reach for the other team...BUSH LEAGUE
- Blitzing everyone on defense when the game is completely out of reach...BUSH LEAGUE
- Leaving your ones in late in the game on offense and defense when you could give an opportunity to some subs to play...BUSH LEAGUE *only exeception = preserving a shutout...I'm a defensive guy at heart and I don't see anything wrong with trying to preserve a shutout because a goose egg is a very big deal
These are some things I have had done to us when we were struggling. I wouldn't wish this stuff upon a program that is historically bad that is heading in a positive direction. One of the biggest struggles you deal with in situations like that is the mental toughness aspect as far as overcoming adversity. If teams are doing the above things it's extremely difficult, borderline impossible, to preserve what little confidence and enthusiasm the kids might have left. I know we have alot of coaches who are ruthless with these types of programs but I'm not one of them because I've been there. The road to Easy Street goes through the sewer. I'm working everyday to get our program to Easy Street and I know we've been in the sewer. Trust me it stinks!. It's like "look we're done...stop kicking us when we're down." Our best chance to try to stop your offense or put points on your defense was earlier in the game and if we didn't do it then we're certainly not going to do it when you're up 40 or 50+ points. If we didn't have success it's because we didn't execute, didn't do a great job of coaching, or didn't have the horses. That's my take on the term Bush League. There are other situations and actions that could potentially be added to this list. JMHO.
