Would any of you be willing to share your method of monitoring the weekly academic progress of your athletes? I am searching for a uniform system that is efficient, yet not overly cumbersome for the teaching staff. Thank you in advance for your help.

i have found that homework is the root of all of our acedemic problems, so we have a homework log. it is a sheet of paper that the kids have that has all of thier periods for the week layed out. They are to write down thier assignments and have the teachers initial (space provided) that they wrote it down correctly with due date. This is not very burdensome for the teachers, just like initialling a readmit slip. Then they need to show me thier sheet with the work in the morning that it is due and I initial(space provided) on the logsheet. Any missed homework or not getting teachers to initial a day is extra running after practice or in the offseason. it is alot of checking for me, but it seems to work with the kids.

our district computer system has the ability for me to check it players current grades online and then i just print a progress report and hand it to them. I also hand them a tutroing pass for each class they have an "I" or "C" in and comprehensive list of what teacher on what day they are going to see for tutoring. This list also goes to the tutors, that I hand deleiver to them, and explain what my players are required to accomplish. So far,in 8th grade basketball, all 13 of p my players have made drastic improvements in their grades, and the four that moved up to start for the 9th grade have slipped.

Have your district look into a system called lettergrade. You can search it on the web and many districts use it. All the players will get put into a class called football 1 and you can look at all of there grades in all of there classes.
