Just curious, but has anyone heard any talk among high school associations in regards to following the NCAA and reducing the high school hash marks? I'm thinking we might be a couple of years away, but I see it as inevitable.
It would require some of our schemes and game calling to change like defensive boundary/field calls, etc., but I'm not sure if I would be in favor or not of the change.
Just a thought. Would you welcome it? why, why not. What impact would it have on your offense or defense, not to mention special teams.

I would welcome it. It would make my script easier.

I have been wanting this for years. I figure it is time to adopt the college hash marks like texas and mass. do.
heck, I would like the the h.s. hash marks to be like the pros, put them right down the field goal posts.
it would be interesting for boundry throws. the hash safety would have further to go.

I'd love to see NCAA rules adopted nationwide for high school, one set of rules, period. And yes, I'd love to see open field cut blocking legal. On that note, I'd like to see spring football in pads and summer programs allowed, and, and, and...........

Airman,
Does Texas and Massachusetts already have the reduced hash marks?

texas and mass are the only states which do not use federation rules. so yes texas has college hash marks.
jhanawa, I am not sure I would like the whole spring and summer thing. my state is very restrictive int he summer. it is nice to have summers to do what I want with them.

Airman, I understand what your saying there, but it would be nice to at least have the choice to do so. Our state association is a joke in regards to how it treats football.

Our state association is a joke in regards to how it treats football. wisconsin where I am from is very strict. it believes in the 3 sport athlete and that no one sport is better then any of the others. so in wisconsin soccer is equal to football. just how it is.

Yep, thats Football, not the Pussball that we are forced to play. However, all of the self serving political ladder climbers in our state association will never let it happen. I think they'd rather have year round baseball and eliminate football entirely if they could.

I don't like moving the hashmarks just due to the wear that your field will experience in the middle. Sure, it's good for turf and college and pro fields that have crews that maintain it excellently, but at a cash strapped high school, this would absolutely tear up the middle of your field. Even worse than now.
Anyone ever see a December/January game in Soldier Field? And they have multi-man crews to maintain it. I'd hate to see the middle of our field after a rain game if the hashes were moved in.

well since I'm in a school system that shares 5 stadiums for 17 schools and the middle of the field is gone away, let's please go to NCAA rules.
