We just got some new uniforms. They are very nice and form fitting. We used to ask the kids to wear their jerseys and a dress shirt with a tie underneath. Now the jersey are tight even without a pair of shoulder pads. What are some of the options you guys give or require your players to wear game day at School? Polo's Jackets, t-shirts. Just looking for ideas.
thanks

We just ask that they wear their Jersey on each GameDay! The kids buy their own so we don't care if their Girlfriend has their other jersey on. We have had players lose their jersey's so they wear one of the extra ones, and then they go out and buy another half way through the season. They bought it, they can do with it as they please.
I like the dressing up thing for away games but it is not my program, and I really don't want to police it, I have enough to worry about on game day!

Here our cross country and track teams wear suits and ties as well as other rediculous outfits (For example: tiny shorts, legwarmers out of the 80s, and 'beaters all tie dyed). We'll let them show how "cool and unique" they are we'll just show that we're part of a team and go out and win games.
When I see a high school football team dress up in jackets and ties I immediately think "wow these guys can't find pride in their team so they are trying to manufacture artificial pride by pretending they are in a boardroom or courtroom." We don't need that. We have real pride and not in some useless piece of clothing that has nothing to do with why we are together but in the symbols of our team.
Thus we obviously don't play dress up on game days with their daddy's ties and sportcoats. We wear our jerseys.

I see a lot of teams that have their guys wear ties, though. Don't ANY of them have any pride in their team? We wear jersies but I wouldn't have a problem if the boss suggested ties.

While I don't have a problem with the whole game day shirt and tie routine, i know that when i was in school I really just wanted to wear that jersey. One its comfy, two, everytime I looked in the mirror it focused me on the game that night. Also as a coach I really dont' want kids worrying about what to wear, how to tie a tie, all that crap. Just put the jersey on, something comfy, something to be proud about. Let everyone in the building know who friday nights belong too.

At a relatively "street tough" school where conservative or dressy clothing is scarce, to say the least. The HC requires all FB players to wear a dress shirt and tie on game days. When I joined this staff, I thought it was nonsensical, for the reasons others have stated. However, I found that most of the team genuinely enjoy "looking good" and see the rule as a way to dress up in school without being ridiculed because they "have to." The kids really seem to take pride in themselves and the way they look, which is never a bad thing when there is not much to be proud of in many of their outside lives. I was definitely wrong on this one.

I like just wearing the jersey to school.... i don't like requiring a kid to wear a tie gameday.....some are not comfortable with it..and some can't afford nicer things like a good dress shirt & tie. It's football...not a job interview... just my opinion though

we do both. they wear a shirt and tie and they put their jersey over the top of it. we can do this because we do not have the newer style jerseys. our head coach still likes mesh jerseys.

I don't understand the shirt and tie under the jersey thing.

How we do it is if they win they get to wear their jerseys. but if they lose they wear shirt and tie. To start out the year they wear their jerseys.

We have them wear their jerseys. They must be tucked in and look nice and girlfriends are not allowed to wear their other jersey. The other jersey is for mom or a family member to wear.

We went so many different routes when I was in school. My sophomore year we wore polo's given by the booster club. My Junior year, we wore shirt and tie, the booster club donated the ties which had a redbug with our number inside and right above that it said GATA. My senior year we wore our jerseys.
As a coach, I just have them wear their jerseys. Quick, easy, and they want to wear them.
