I have never had to deal with or help in the college recruiting area. A parent approached me because they trust me and because of my relationship with the family. So I need advice information from you guys that on this whole thing.
The facts are these
The player is a Soph. He did go to an underclassman combine in Atl this summer. The school he plays for is not very good and the staff does not do anything in the recruiting area until a player is a Sr. The family was approached by NCSA about helping the player get recruited. They told th efamily they were surprised the player was not already getting letters (sales pitch I know) and pitched them a service of 75.00 a month. Now the family does not have much money yet they will/would do anything to give their son the best chance at a college education.
So guys any help and advice on getting a player some exposure and help in the recruiting process would be great. I am not trying to land the kid at FL or think he is some big D1 talent. I just want the kid to get the education and be able to play ball.

You need to be as proactive as possible in recruiting, the fact that is coaches wait until he is a senior to help out isnt going to help him go anywhere that scholarships are involved, and if he is D1 material and he isnt getting any letters probably means coaches just don't know who he is. He needs to start contacting schools, around 50-100 realistic one, by filling out questionnaires, and other information to be on their radar. September 1st is coming and if he isn't on D1, or D2 radars already the in wont be getting any letters in the mail
Make sure your film is done right, doing it yourself usually isnt the right way. How do you know what coaches want to see or don't want to see? How long does it need to be? These are questions you need to know before making one. And just sending it in is a waste of your money, the coach needs to already know who you are and where its coming from or its going in the trash. Trust me, I've been on both sides, and coaches aren't gonig to go out and look for you on the internet...Why? They are lazy mostly, they want you to show intiative on getting it to them, not making them find it.
Also, NCSA is most Definitely worth the money....It will blow your mind on the things they can do for athletes and for coaches looking for players as well

Dcohio- So you can cut film and make a highlight tape? Do you have contacts with college coaches to get that film into their DVD player to watch?
Morris- I am a high school varsity coach and a lot of my players have used NCSA. At first, I was a little nervous about families doing this. After seeing 2 players start there "Recruiting Path" I was amazed at the number of college coaches contacting me about my players.
My families know that I really do not have time to help them with recruiting, I also teach for the high school. If the family you are speaking about can afford $75 a month, I would most definetly recommend using NCSA. One of my players received over $75,000 in scholorship money over a 4 year period and did not go D1. Anymore questions I would love to help you out some more.
Good Luck

Good Luck What do you mean you don't have time to help kids with recruiting? Filling out questionaires, making calls, making and sending video are all part of the job. I don't know any coaches who don't have time for it. $75 a month? First I'd have the parents contact the coach. If he's really waiting until kids are seniors he's way behind the times. If the coach still refuses to help- and he won't really have anything to do until after the season anyway- then I'd tell the parents to take the steps that DCOhio mentioned.
