OK I am teaching a single class session on coaching, this section has never been taught before, they felt it needed to be addressed. (The course is team taught.)
If you were sitting in a M.S. program in HPE, what would you want to hear about "Coaching and Sport Organization".
I know we have students who range from GAs on the football team to people in the community working on their M.S.
I am open to all ideas. I have some of my own, however I would like to hear what others have to say first.
Thanks in advance.

I think there should be a ton of Organization work done in the class, and then you need to get practical experience. If I had to go back to school and do it again, I would say I wish they would have stressed the organization more. I also think roundtable style may help a bit too. Everyone talking about their own experiences will help so that they all can learn from each others mistakes and triumphs.
One thing I would suggest, is as a class go over a mock year in a program as a head coach, making everybody write down what the daily needs are. All the paper work you are in charge of. Budgets, inventory, PARENTS, Kids!
I think this would be a great course to teach, I would have a blast!

The coaching class I took last spring included the following: 1. Coaching hours. We had to get I think 20 hours during the semester in a coaching setting. 2. Guest speakers. The coaches of the school came in to talk to us. They answered questions and gave advice about coaching at the college and high school level. 3. Group discussions. We had discussions on how we would handle problems that could arise when coaching, ie parents, kids drinking, etc. 4. Notebook. We had to create aspects of a program from the ground up. Academic policies, athletic policies, practice schedules, everything.
