What do you do to avoid doing UP-DOWNS everday... whether it be for conditioning or "negative reinforcement"
It is alot of wear and tear for the BIG MEN...
looking for creative ideas!

Find the heaviest bag you can find and make them carry it around the field. We tell them it is your prom date!!! Some of them have actually asked it out on a date.

We have used the 120# pop-up bags and had them carry those either by themselves or as part of a 2-man relay type thing. For a conditioner having 2 players carry the bag one on wach side with the handles is kind of fun. One example is run down 40 yards and back carrying the bag. As a consequence carrying the bag by yourself 100 yards down and back is a female dog. But by far my favorite is tire flips. Get a big tractor tire, the bigger the better (within reason) and and have them flip it over and over again. If you want to make it more difficult flip the tire 5x then do lunges for 30 seconds then job back and flip the tire. However we make the players SQUAT down and pick it up not round the back like this gentleman.

I was gonna say tires, but someone beat me too it...
Bear crawls are always nice...
Making them run with kegs is good too...

Bends and Thrusts are my personal favorites. I really don't like up-downs at all.
I was at UNLV last spring and they had their injured guys beating on a tire with sledge hammers. Great for those with leg problems.
Three-quarter squat freeze. Duck Walk. Squat jumps. Pushups in the sand/high jump pit. High Knee Skip run. 4 second sled drives (20 second rest) Liners - sideline-to-sideline-to-sideline-to-sideline. Touch each line within 40 seconds.

pushing the sled? leg raises 110 yard sprints "perfect" starts / get offs for reps of 15 - 25(or start the count over) Yugoslavian husk and hull road slabbing

Partner pushups. One player does pushups while the other provides vertical resistance by pushing on thier partner's shoulders. As player A attempts to push himself off the ground player B is pushing him down. When player A is lowering himself player B is trying to push him down faster and player A must resist. The point is not to drive them into the ground but provide enough resistance to really make them work. I would time it for 30 seconds and do 3 sets.
I liked to do this one maybe in week #2 of camp or the Thursday before the scrimmage (Sat). You can burn up the upper body while letting the legs rest.
There is a thread on here about conditioning with posts about how to make it "fun". Fun things we do are tag sprints, & helmet relay.

one time for conditioning....I made our guys take off the helmets and play "touch" football (nonstop - no stopping of play) for 10 minutes straight....they were DEAD at the end of it.
Losers of the game put equipment away after 2x25 pushups.

Coach: For some conditioning with positive, team-building reinforcement built in, ask Jack Gregory about his "Enduro" drill format...
