Had a conversation with a local coach who commented on how they film the opposing teams coaches and try to get their signals as well as send someone down close to the sidelines and pick up what they are saying. I think this is pretty shady at best. Curious to hear what you guys have to say.

Yeah, I think there is a difference between picking up signals in a game, or remembering them from year to year if they are stupid enough to keep the same ones - from planned and organized espionage.
I'm thinking a win because of being sneaky is kind of a diluted win.
And really? Not an honorable win either.
Fail.

I agree with arbond. Filming signals is 100% bush league. Stealing them real time in a game is ok.

How is a future opponent even allowed to tape an opponent's game? I'll steal the signals if I can. Heck, one team we play uses "GOLD" to signify that they are going to throw uncovered...guess what color we use to stem our front. its different in different locations. Here in NCS in CA, we can film anyones game.

How is a future opponent even allowed to tape an opponent's game? That is the one thing that would drive me nuts when we played an Ohio team, we had to practically get approval from the White House to film the game when we scouted. I can't understand why they won't let you guys film when you scout in Ohio, it's not like people don't have cameras now a days. As far as stealing signals ehhh I am not gonna waste my time doing it while watching film unless it's something completely obvious that really stands out. If I pick something up during a game I'll let the team know. I am of the mind set of hey you may know what's coming but you have no idea how how well we do it.

I don`t make any effort to steal signals in some cloak and dagger way, but if your codes are so bad that I bump into it, that`s more your problem than mine.

how does me knowing their signals better prepare my players for what is coming. in the end it is what the players know not what I know. time is valuable. I would rather focus on tendencies.
In these gray areas I say do on to other as you would have done onto you. meaning if you do not mind people stealing your signals or running up the score on your then feel free to do the same to them.
it is has been my experience the biggest complainers are those who get offended when you do on to them as they would do onto your.

Yeah I agree. If the teams signals are so obvious even I can pick up on them, thats a big problem for them. I may watch a bit during a game, but no way in hell Im gonna send people down to sidelines and all that.
