HS coaches- I'm curious how long you have to travel for regular-season away games. If you have one game that really throws off the average please mention that.
Our average trip is about 20 minutes but every second year we have an hour trip.
If the poll thing is broken (I can't see mine) please just answer in a reply.

Each of last two years we had a three-hour (150 or so miles) trip.
This year (new school) longest is 80 miles, hour and a half.
All three non-league games BTW/FWIW.
Otherwise our trips are about 25 minutes on average.

One school is actually just down the street (long street), one is also very close, one about 15 min, one about 30 min, but after that you start leaving the city and it jumps up to 45 min-1 hr, depending who is in what division in a given year.

No more than 40m, but they're way out in the boondocks. The rest are within 20m by bus, less by car.

In high school my soph. year we played Imperial HS for the section championship. We were at Paso Robles, pretty much the northernmost school in the CIF Southern Section, Imperial is just above the Mexican border. 416 miles 1 way. Lost 13-6.
The next year we played at 29 Palms, that was only 350 miles. Won 42-18.
These are not the "lets go out of state for a pre-season game", these were regular games. I know there are probably longer games in Texas, but that is still a far ways to travel.
Traveling 90-120 miles was a normal occurrence given we were a farming community.

we play 2 conference games a year on the complete other end of the state. Anywhere from a 4-5 hr trip one way. We usually have 1 other road game and that wouldnt be any farther than 2 hrs. Otherwise any other away game is in town vs fellow city schools.

HAHA Oddly enough I believe my dad was on that Imperial team (was it in the mid 70s?) I coached in the CIF SS for a few years and had to make that same type of trip in the playoffs. This year, as the crow flies, the farthest we'll have to go this year is about 12-15 miles, although pending freeway traffic that could take a while

4 road games this year...each one is about an hour by bus...a little less by car.
We've also had years in which all 4 away games were less than 15 minutes away. All depends on divisional schedules from year to year.
When I was in VA @ Patrick-Henry Roanoke, we were in the NW Region and had some games in Northern VA area. Nice 3.5 to 4 hour drive one way.

Boarding school in CT. We have four away games this fall. 2.5 hrs, 1.75 hrs, 1.75 hrs, 1.25 hrs. We ride a coach bus, so we throw in a movie that is football appropriate. The kids also travel with ipods and other types of electronic devices. About half of the kids sleep. We eat a meal just before we depart and have snacks for the kids on the longer trips.

We got the shaft on the new districting of the state. We get 3 home games and 5 away, with the closest away game at 28 miles, and the furthest at 183 miles away, with three others at 156 miles away! Needless to say our kids will be missing school on Friday's and one of our motto's has to be Road Warriors!

Our trips now are not bad most under and hour. I coached at another school several years ago and we played in a conference that had us traveling to several schools that were 4 hours away one way. We are located in the little corner of PA by Ohio and NY and the league we played in had schools located past Penn State in the middle of PA. In one stretch of our schedule we had 3 of 4 games on the road, leave at noon and get home at like 3 in the morning. Was a great time!

Four years ago we went about 1:15 away. Since then the longest is like 30 min.
6 home games, 2 away games within ten minutes, and two 15-30 min away. Well scheduled this year.

We share a stadium with the other school in town and it's on our campus, so that's one of our away games this season. 4 other schools in the conference are all within 15 minutes, while the last two are about 45 minutes away.

4 Road Games,
Closest game is 1 hour. The other three are 2-3.5 hours.
Looks like we'll need to start a thread on how to handle these trips the best!
