I think a lot of youth football coaches dont know if their teams are big or small, they dont have a frame of reference.
Im going to do some research and come out with the results at the end of the season.
For those of you coaching NON SELECT- NO CUT youth football. For those of you in unlimited weight leagues, no restrictions or maybe just no restrictions for interior linemen: what are the weights of your kids:
Age 7-9: Under 60 lbs % 61-80 lbs % 81-100 lbs % 101-120 lbs % Above 121 lbs %
Age 10-11 Under 60 lbs % 61-80 lbs % 101-120 lbs % 121-140 lbs % Above 141 lbs %
Age 12-13
Under 80 lbs% 81-100 lbs % 101-120 lbs% 121-140 lbs % 141-160 lbs % 161-180 lbs % Above 181 lbs %
If you dont have the exact age grouping do your best to make an accurate extrapolation. Thanks in advance

Pop Warner Jr. Midget, age 12-13:
Even though bigger 10 and 11 year olds can play JM, we discourage this, and I have none of the youngers bigs on my team. All of our players are either 12 or 13.
22 players singed up so far, expecting more, probably will have about 30 when all is said and done.
81-100 lbs - 5 (23%) 101-120 lbs - 13 (59%) 121-140 lbs - 4 (18%)
Average weight of team in total is just over 110 lbs, which is right in the middle of the range for JM at Pop Warner (85-135)

10-12 yr olds (mostly 11), 18 player roster:
60-100: 11 players - 61% 100-125: 2 players - 11% 125+: 5 players - 28%
Actually, both players between 100-125 were the 2 girls on the team. I guess it goes to show that there's no such thing as a 12 yr old boy. They go from 10 and they wake up one morning 14.

12-13 (Midget Division - mostly 7th & 8th Grade) - last years team - Pop Warner. Actually, the division was technically 11-14, with 15 yr-old older-lighters allowed, but I'm pretty certain all of our kids were either 12 or 13 (we might have had 1 or 2 14 yr-olds, but no O/Ls).
26 Players total (NOTE: weight limits for all players were min-105, max-160)
Under 80 lbs - 0% 81-100 lbs - 0% 101-120 lbs - 15.4% 121-140 lbs - 42.3% 141-160 lbs - 42.3% 161-180 lbs - 0% Above 181 lbs - 0%

Coach -
We're a school-based team in a no-cut, everyone plays league for 5th & 6th graders, mostly 10 & 11 y.o. (53 players total, but essentially we split into a 5th grade team and a 6th grade team)

Sample size 25 at age 7-9, 50 at age 10-11 We had a VERY off grouping of ages this year only 11 eligible to move up at 12-13 so we arent fielding a team there, instead we added another age 10-11 team- next year we will have 30 kids age 12-13 so we will play there again. As of last nights weigh in Age 7-9: Under 60 lbs 24% 61-80 lbs 48% 81-100 lbs 20 % 101-120 lbs 8% Above 121 lbs 0% Age 10-11 Under 60 lbs 0 % 61-80 lbs 24 % 81-100 lbs 32% 101-120 lbs 12% 121-140 lbs 28% 141-160 lbs 2% 161-180 lbs 0% 180+ 2% We will be very small as usual at 7-9 We will be bigger than ever- from an average weight/number of striper % on both 10-11 teams. Not huge, but more kids in the 120-140 range than weve ever had. Last season at age 12-13: 81-100- 18% 101-120- 66% 121-140- 4% 141-160- 4% 161-180- 4% 181-200- 0% 200+- 4% Smallest team in the league by far AND smallest Midget team Ive seen in 20 years of youth football- we went 9-1

Age 7-9: Under 60 lbs 24%.......2/31=6% 61-80 lbs 48%............19/31=61% 81-100 lbs 20 %.........5/31=16% 101-120 lbs 8%..........4/31=13% Above 121 lbs 0%......1/31=3%
I was really pleased with my makeup. 90% between 61-120. I prefer fast feet over size.
