I am struggling with getting our practices filmed.
The head coach doesn't want a parent to do it because he doesn't want them that involved. I'm sure we've all got opinions on that, but that's not really the point.
I just want friggin practice taped.
Watching our game film from last year, I am still PO'd at myself for playing one kid the whole year last year. I had a couple of other guys I should've played over him and I directly relate it to not being able to watch flim practice.
Well that and the fact that apparently I suck at evaluating talent.
So who films your practices?
Also for you HUDL guys, are y'all trying to make me believe that I can get off the field, meet with whoever, plan the next day and go home and practice will be waiting for me on the internet? GET OUT!!!!

For us it is our student managers...
We have them film from behind for most drills (team/inside drill...).. 7 on 7 is wider...
Never been a problem for us. Pretty easy. I hi-light the parts needed on the practice schedule and the girls take care of it.

GET OUT!!!! We have an asst coach responsible for filming practice. We currently use a scissor lift and our AD won't allow any students up in it. We're working on building an endzone tripod for the upcoming season. We're talking to a couple of potential student assts. We used Hudl walkthroughs extensively for our practice video. It was by far the best teaching tool we've ever experienced. We used Hudl to communicate with our fellow coaches, as much as we did to coach up the players. I'd check online to see which players had been able to watch the practice video before the next practice. If they didn't go online to review the day before's practice, we'd go over the notes with them individually while they're getting ready for practice.

We'll have 3 filmers at our 7 on 7 tomorrow night. Wide, Tight, and End Zone. Student filmers...all going to be juniors next year.
We'll load it up into DSV Anywhere...and pretty much do everything any other software does online. Send to coaches, players, draw on it, talk on it, see who watched it, send it to groups of players. It might even bake me a cake before I get home from the school later tomorrow night.

Mav, we are also building are own endzone camera this season. Let me know any tips or tricks you might have to make the process streamlined. We are in the planning phase right now so any advice is greatly apreciated.

We use our "walking wounded" kids. We always seem to have one. We will use our endzone camera, or we still use our 12' ladder, send the kid halfway up and rest his arm on the top of it; and just use a Flip camera. They work great and are easy to upload to a computer. As soon as practice is over, I go and plug it into Hudl, and by the time I commute home 20-30 minutes, I can go online and mark up the video. In fact, by that time some of the kids have already marked their "highlights" from practice.

I'll start a thread in the Tech section when we get going. Coach Johnson has a nice write up and video of his system - www.hudl.com/blog/comments/make-your-own-end-zone-camera-system-for-800/

We use students. We have two guys, one for wide and one for end zone and they are able to split up for the O vs. scouts and D vs. scouts. We give them some gear and they are able to get some course credit also.

we also use our walking wounded and sometimes our middle school coaches come over since they start earlier than we do.

Managers, walking wounded, dads, coaches. we don't do it nearly enough. Our practice field is right behind our bleachers so we can get the camera high enough by putting the camera man on the highest step of the bleachers...

We have student managers film our practices. When they built our pressbox they put windows on the backside so we can film practice. Our practice field is on the backside of our game field so it works out very well. Debating if we want to live capture practice everyday or not for hudl.
