Situation 1: Overtime of a 20-20 home game. You have the ball and score first. The other team does not kick extra points, you know that they will go for 2 if they score a TD in their possession. You have a reliable xpt kicker. Do you kick the extra point to go up 7 or go for 2?
Situation 2: Your on the road you score w/ about 1 min. 15 sec. to go to make the score 27-28 against an undefeated team. Once again a reliable fg kicker, do you kick the xpt to tie or go for 2pt and the win?

Situation #1 = Kick .....You now get your chance to stop them from scoring on defense, and if they do score, you have another chance to win the game. Put the pressure on them to convert the 2pt conversion. If you have done your scouting correctly, then you should know their "short yardage" and "2pt" plays. Situation #2 = ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) .....What kind of undefeated team? What kind of team do you have? Timeouts? Too much that could have a huge impact. If you have all 3 timeouts, then kick it and make them make the choice once they get the ball. Go for the win by throwing, or try to run it out and play for OT. If they try to pass and your defense is decent, one incompletion really puts them in a bind. If they try to run it out, you can use your 3 timeouts and make them punt. Give your reliable kicker a chance to win the game.

1. I would def kick it. I think that by doing so you force them into a pressure situation by knowing they have to convert a 2 point conversion. 2.In a normal circumstance, I would probably kick it. If you go for 2 and are stopped you have basically given them the game unless you can figure a way to stop them, get it back, and go score. By tying the game you can play good defense and you have essentially bought yourself some more time to win the game. However, if I had all of the momentum, all 3 of my timeouts, and a defense that had been playing lights out, I may consider going for 2.

Thanks guys.
Situation one, we went for the xpt, he missed and we forced a fumble on their possesion and won the game.
Situation 2, we had 1 TO left, they were 4-0 we were 0-4. We had momentum, our FB had 220+ yards rushing, and we had already missed 2 FG's at that (badly angled) set of goalposts over the last 2 seasons so we tried to win the game in regulation rather than play for OT. We run the option but FB "kept" it and didn't allow the QB to pull, FB gets stuffed, QB walks into the endzone w/o the ball. We lost.

Situation #1: Most years I would kick. I usually have more faith in the defense than the offense when it comes to one play.
Situation #2: Go for two most of the time, but it depends on the overtime procedures and the flow of the game.
