Over the holiday weekend western PA lost a legendary coach who died suddenly. He was the all times victory leader, and still actively coaching, in our county and was set to be inducted into the city sports hall of fame and state football coaches hall of fame this summer. But the thing that makes me sit back and think is how many lives this coach touched in his years as not only a coach but teacher as well. A facebook group was set up in his memory and had over 1500 people last night. Many of them students saying what a difference he made in their lives and how much he meant to them. Talking about how just a simple wave or smile in the morning made their day. There were tributes from athletes and non-athletes talking about how he helped them be the people they are in their lives now. It is very moving. It got me thinking about how much impact we have on our players and students lives. It really makes you sit back a minute and realize what a great profession we are in and what impacts we can have on all those young lives. I think sometimes we often forget just how important even the smallest things we do can have such a great impact. It truly is a noble profession with great responsibility.
