Just happened to turn the darn tv on and there Mike Leach is talking to the guy on FNL about finding his "inner pirate" and to swing his sword with passion. Not worth much, but was a nice surprise.

That was great. I don't watch the show, so thanks for mentioning it. Leach is awesome.

He's something else. That's always been the case with him and I'm sure that'll never change. Hope he catches on somewhere soon because that program will be much improved quickly. Great coach.

From a non football coach's perspective, that must have seemed like an absolutely BIZARRE scene. "Who the heck is this fat guy effeminately swishing his hands all over."
(Disclaimer--several years ago I posted ripping the idea of watchign the show, and stated I generally disliked any football related entertainment shows. However, having found the first two seasons on sale for like $7.00 a piece on DVD, I got into the show and its not a horrible 45-46 minutes)
I did find the scene to be curious because I don't know how many people would truly "get it".

Did other guy reply, "No crossing swords"? Mike leach didn't play "Mike Leach" in the show. At least it wasn't portrayed that way. The other guy (the h.s coach show is centered around) basically stared at him like he was a moron. The character Leach played was the one who recognized the HS coach.

Be careful where you swing your sword.
I wouldn't want Leach to get someone else fired.

Funny thing was, this show was recorded before Leach was fired.

And right on cue, after giving the show a little praise (not being horrible...) they put out the following storyline: --Coach tells player in office to go learn how to be a punter. Player says "coach, I don't know how to kick anything. I am more of a hands type player". Coach snarls, player says yes sir and leaves. --Player shown practicing by himself with no instruction on how to be punter --girl (obviously budding romantic interest) sees player and begins to teach him how to punt. She learned all about football because her Dad "was a quarterback and almost made it to the pros" --Player immediately punts the ball better after 35 seconds of her tutelage --In game scene, coach tells player to get "his field goal" team on the field. Bad snap results in player shoveling ball to angry/misunderstood player who scores TD on last play of game. Is there any wonder why people think they can coach?

Not to hard to deem the show a mockery of our profession. Like the bible, you can make it say what you want it to. I myself find the show therapeutic as well as entertaining. Of course it is more theatrical, but still not too far off the reality. If you like it watch it, if not change the channel. Just my take on it.
