Hi guys I was wondering how you would approach this situation any and all advice would be awesome.
We are nearing the end of our spring season with a new staff (I am HC) we have a young OC who has done everything and anything he could to get the most out of the guys he just hasn't been able to. Our D has been outstanding we have allowed on average 17pts per game with our offence averaging 9pts per game and 4-5 turn overs per game.
We have won the D2 City Championship for the last 2 seasons, which means we were not good enough to be in the top tier of teams and play for the secondary trophy. There are 2 clear groups of teams (usually) we have only been in existence for 5 seasons so we are growing quickly.
This was it, we had the most talented group we have had ever here and if we were going to compete in D1 this was it (huge drop in talent for 2 more years then back in the mix). As a team the kids and the coaches have set the bar at D1. Well yesterday we lost and now are out of D1 and into the D2 playoffs. It pisses me off we had 17 players away at a leadership conference and the teacher organizing the leadership event wouldn't swap weekends nor would the team we played..... Our D had 2 grade 11's and the rest grade 9's playing we lost 25-7. (sorry venting)
Anyway, we are now in D2 for sure we play the undefeated league leaders this week who we lost to in the opener 25-0.
How do you prep for the week in terms of tempo?
-Do you stay relaxed keep it easy and fun
or
-Do you dial it up to get the intensity up so that the players are not flat and still keep the fire burning.
or
-Any other ideas??
