Had an HC try to get it across to us once but he butchered it all up and we all left going WTF was that!??! I think it's a good idea but I never really liked the model. Teach what you know and believe...

I am not a big fan of Frosty. He did get his guys to believe in his psychological bs though.

Westering, who also is a full professor with a doctorate in education who specializes in sports psychology, admits that his philosophy may be sound eccentric to some. He uses the concept of a red car and a blue car to explain his ideas. Red, he says, is the most popular color of car and represents the popular model of winning. It's the model that says the way to truly succeed is to beat others. The trouble, Westering says, is that you have no control over what others do. Blue, he says, is not as popular a color for cars, but it represents his model of winning. It's the model that tells players to be the best they can and play as a team to achieve positive results. "The game is not us against the other team, the game is us against our best self and we don't know how good that is," he said. "So many times in games you beat yourself, and so we're always playing ourselves." www.ncaa.org/wps/portal/ncaahome?WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT=/ncaa/ncaa/ncaa+news/ncaa+news+online/2003/endzone/grid+coach_s+philosophy+is+more+than+just+winning+-+11-10-03

I believe in the concept of focusing on being the best you can be.
His Attaway chant that players do during games to their opponents is straight up taunting in my book. They should be flagged everytime they do that in between a game.

ATTAWAY! This cheer, brought to the university by football coach Frosty Westering, has been adopted as our official chant and a way our campus community frequently recognizes a job well done! This Attaway is for you, proud parents! Hey Lutes! (crowd echo: Hey Lutes!) Go Lutes! (Go Lutes!) Attaway! (Attaway!) Attaway! (Attaway!)

I'm limited in my knowledge of Lute lore. Who does this chant and why might it be considered taunting?

I have seen them do that chant while on defense to a opposing player during the game. Example a WR gets laid out by a PLU defender and as he is walking to the huddle they plug in his number or name. I found it disrespectful and a way to get into the opposing teams head.

I don't have a red or blue car, I have a silver SUV.
Does that make me a complete contrarian?

Does it make a difference if the blue car is a Corvette or a Pinto?

See Frosty instructed his players to help their opponents up after knocking them down. He also instructed them in the hero Heart Excellence Respect Optimism

Played against Frosty, I don't recall any of the Lutes ever doing that to any of our guys. There were plenty of Attaway! cheers from the crowd and sidelines, but really, it's college football, there's plenty worse being done.
I like the red/blue car analogy, though. I've been converting my coaching philosophy/style/method to the 'blue car' style over the last year or two and I think it's important for HS coaches to realize that W's are a sweet result, but the actual reward for playing is something completely separate and hopefully intangible. Teach 'em to compete in football, then teach 'em to transfer it to life. If you do that you'll: win more than you lose, smile more than you frown, and always affect lives for the better, period.
