NH- about 60 teams, although probably not quite...all 11 man football.
Most of our High Schools are regional schools, and we're a small state anyway.

There are 385 football playing schools in the Alabama HS Athletic Association, plus probably a couple of new programs not yet in region play. There are 46 in the Alabama Independent School Association.

I wonder how IL number takes into account co-ops. We have quite a few small schools in my area that coop for some sports most notably football, soccer, and wrestling. So both or in some cases all three schools offer the sport, but it's only one team.

That number in SC must include private schools as well. The SCHSL reports for the 2010 realignment that 197 of the 204 public schools will fields football teams. Of the 7 not fielding teams: - 1 is the school for the deaf and blind, which DOES field a team, but does not play other teams in the HS League - 2 are known as 'Governor's Schools' - 3 are 'academies' for specialized course study - 1 is small rural school that fields other sport teams, but not football.
All public schools in SC field 11 man teams. There is no public 8 man football.
Doing a little digging around in the SCISA (independant/private) site: - 11 man football has 36 teams - I do not see infomation on 8 man footbal, but I know there are schools that field teams.
