I wonder if the new coach has already resigned from his current position. If not, he needs to turn down the contract for the new job.

Wow, either that coach is walking into a bad situation or that is one bitter sports writer

Doesn't sound like he is bashing the new coach but rather the school board and parents. That being said, I don't know that it would be wise going into that situation knowing the past history of lack of support from the school board.

That article isn't good for any of the parties involved. I've seen a sports editor scrutinize University and Pro athletics, but never high school athletics like this before. Is this common in most areas?

If he didn't know that stuff before and is just finding out, I would be quitting fast.

Hate to say it guys, but the situation described in the paper is not that far from reality too often in Western PA. School boards have their own agendas and will act accordingly, nine times out of ten not in the best interest of the students. Too many backroom deals get cut and the results are usually the same...bad. But that doesn't stop it.
Some of the top coaches in the area have had to fend off challenges from school boards comprised of parents who got elected specifically so they could "get even" with the coaches. Some have been successful and others have not, and some have gotten tired of the bs and have resigned. With local school boards running things (not county wide like in a lot of areas) politics tends to play the biggest role in decision making.
It is an unfortunate fact of life in our area. I know, been there had it done to me.

Agreed, maybe this article can help the new coach by shedding light on the problems with the higher ups. If the reporter keeps after them, maybe they will do the right things.

My buddy took a job out in PA, moving from one of the best schools (football wise) in CA. They immediately had people bitching and complaining about the hiring, with some even claiming he was an A-11 proponent because he was from CA. Dude went 0-10 this year, but supposedly that was "a good 0-10".
I can't imagine that going down out here, but it doesn't seem like too much for some of the more football crazy parts of the globe. Kudos to the writer for sticking it to the the people who aren't the coach!

Our HC is ADORED by the school board.
His best record over 3 season was 6-5, but because of his personal relationships with the board members, he could get away with murder.
As his assistant, I know his job is safe, and that means it will take a Goliath opportunity/offer for me to ever leave.......
We have a good ole boys deal............but we are on the right side of it.

Well at least you would know where you stood assuming you would accept this job.
Perhaps this is a wake-up call for the community to get this negative publicity. But I doubt it...

Nah, they still lost most've them by 30-40, but on the whole, they put out a better product that had been seen in a while. If he still has any hair left 3 years from now, I'll be amazed.

Something to be said about "That is the best losing team I ever saw"...being run out of town once myself, I can understand the Mans plight. We all think we can turn around a team...but the truth is sometimes it just ain´t gonna happen.

Just change the name of the school and the names of the coaches, and the article would accurately describe the situation at a whole lot of schools.

Hickory High School, huh? It's simple, then. Hire the barber to coach the team. Then Jimmy Chitwood will want to play again and all of their problems will be solved.
