Got fired earlier this week from my first head coaching job after only 1 year. Official reason was "gross insubordination". The district tried to screw 5 of my assistant coaches out of a portion of their stipends and I guess that I stepped on too many of the wrong toes down in the central office trying to get my guys paid.
Not really surprised...this was a long time coming. Basically, the people in the Human Resources department were upset that I had went over their heads so they have had a vendetta against me pretty much since January.
So...just kind of enjoying the time off...nice to be home at 4:30 every day...going to be able to spend a ton of time with my family this summer...my oldest son starts 6th grade football this summer...all stuff I'm looking forward to.
I think I'm likely done coaching high school ball. This was my 4th coaching stop in as many years...at this point, it is probably pretty safe to say that I am just a disagreeable pr1ck who can't get along with anyone.
Anyway...best of luck to the rest of you guys and have a great summer.

coach hang in there. the man upstairs has a reason for everything. Sometimes you don't see that reason for awhile but there is.

Coach, I am sorry to hear about your dismissal. It sure seemed that you had your program heading in the right direction. However, I respect you for standing up for your assistant coaches and for the positive spin you are putting on this situation.

The days of spending most of your career in one place are done, I'm afraid. I'm on my 6th school. I was basically fired at my second stop, and I've just about played out my string where I'm at now. If you are uncomprimising when it comes to doing things the right way, you make enemies. People chip away at the armor of your reputation until no one knows what to think about you and you are rendered ineffective. Perception means everything and truth means nothing. Knowing those things gives you power.
I've read a lot of your posts, 19Delta, and I think you've got a great football mind. A door just closed and another one is about to open. Keep your eyes open for it, and I wish you all the best.

Gotta give you props for taking the bullet for your asst. coaches and also for being man enough to admit one of your faults. I get so tired of reading....I am at my 10th school in 10 years and don't know why I can't get more responsibility/a varsity position/a coordinators/the other coaches don't listen to me/blahh blahh blahh....

I feel your pain. Same situation as you but it was not standing up for my assistants it was because of mine. After the 6th game of the season my asst. told my QB's parents there are going to be changes come Monday but don't worry your son will be taken care of. Ive been off since Oct. and enjoyed the time with my family. More than likely going to open my own business so I can do whatever I want and I am the boss. I guess that makes 2 of us pricks out there.
