Has anybody tried this out. One long practice in the evening. Work one side of the ball go in the house for 30 minute break to eat fruit small snack. Then come back and work the other side of the ball. Of course special teams added on the correct side of the ball. Stimated times : 1st session 5:00 - 6:30 / 2nd session 7:00 - 8:30. Anty Thoughts?

Did that one year because had assistants who were working or taking classes during the day.
Didn't like it because had it hanging over our heads all day. Kids used up a lot of energy working or doing whatever they did so some were dragging or not very enthusiastic.
Much prefer to practice earlier (we go 9-11 am, 1-3 pm now), get it over with, and have rest of day for family, hobbies, R 'n R, etc.

We have done it an I like it. Drawbacks are waiting all day for practice, kids may jack around all day and be worn out at practice time or lay around all day in AC and be shot. Most people do better if they get up and get to work in the morning.
I have always said you play games at 7:30 pm and that is when you should practice. Not always practical but makes sense.

Will this help with the Heat problem that is coming down on everyone these days. Use to didnt matter how hot it was practice... now there are tempature gages telling us when to go out and when we have to come in. It is still hot at that time but not like 1:00pm

It is still hot at that time but not like 1:00pm Do have to be cognizant of heat issues and give water breaks every 15-20 minutes. But we have conditioning workouts all summer so kids are in good shape, somewhat acclimatized to the heat when we start. And it's going to be warm and humid during those August-early September Friday night games, too. Doubt if it's as hot here at 1 pm as it is down your way, ring.

Very same philosophy on our end.
Our first week is always in the morning 8:00 - 12:30, but we change our second week to afternoons because of that very factor. We believe as a staff that games are played in the evenings, so we try to schedule practices accordingly. We also seem to have more parents on our side when practices are later, one less thing for them to gripe about.

What do you do after school with the hours before your 7:30 pm practices?
At what point in the season do you have to go on game field with lights to practice?

Yes, we did it b/c we used to start school so early -- kids started classes on August 5-7 and we had teacher workdays starting in the last week of July.
Basically was like you said, long drawn out practice with a major break in the middle. Schedule was roughly: 3:30 - 5:45 Break for gator water 6:15-8:30
We did it out of necessity, but it was nice to get it all out of the way.

we have run two-a-days in the afternoon and evening before. It was pretty rough heatwise starting practice at the hottest part of the day. We had two kids go down with heat cramps bad enough that we had to call an ambulance. We preached hydration and gave plenty of water breaks and the kids knew they could get water at any time but we still had two problems. They were wrestler type kids with little body fat. Possibly were taking creatine even though we preached against it.
The late practices were great and we usually ran our sprints when it was nearly dark - which kind of pumped up the kids cuz their parents were there to pick them up.
the late two-a-days are not feasible in my current situation.

We've done both at my current program for "two-a-days" and EVERYONE involved seemed to like the long morning better than the long afternoon. We go 7-9:30, take a 1/2 hour break, and then go 10-11:30. It also gives us more time as our afternoon schedule of two years ago was only 5-8 p.m.
