I am pretty sure I am safe so far... 9th from bottom of seniority list as far as PE teachers areconerned...
Any of you worried?
Our district and all those around us are going through MAJOR cuts...
I got pink slipped as a teacher my 1st year - that sucked....
As HC, if you got pink slipped as a teacher do you quit or stay on as an off campus coach?
We have many off campus coaches here in the Bay Area

If I am a head coach I let them know I will be looking for other jobs and I will stay as the head coach if it works otherwise they could have a opening at anytime.

Okay, I am lost. Are you saying if you got fired as a teacher, but had the option to stay on as the/a coach? I don't see that happening in NC

I was pink slipped after my first year in 1979-80, Stayed on as head coach for four more seasons until I got another full-time job.
In meantime taught some adult education and substituted, coached basketball, umpired; wife worked two jobs plus seasonal help.
That was first time the auto industry and Michigan's economy went south (literally).
I might lose two bright young assistant coaches who are low on totem pole now.

How do you stay on if your fired?

I was "pink slipped" as a TEACHER due to a failed millage and declining enrollment - i.e budget cutbacks - not fired.
And, in Michigan at least, coaching jobs are not tied to teaching positions - separate deals.

Ah, OK. Wouldn't work like that here.

So your saying if you get fired as a teacher what do you do as a coach? Gotta remember it is different every where and I for one am not positive to what you are talking about. In a union state like ours you pretty much have to show up on Americas Most Wanted to get fired.
Anyways if I am fired as a teacher I wouldn't be to worried about coaching as I would be looking for my next job to pay the bills. I guess I would go So I could move on.

I believe they are talking about losing a teaching position due to budget cuts when you are low on the seniority list. Not losing a job due to poor performance.
Our state has a lot of districts making cuts also.

Survey of 300+ Michigan districts published today showed 86% are expecting to lay off teachers at end of this school year.

Haven't got it yet... holding on. HC knows that if I get a slip, coaching at my new job would probably be necessary.

If it came down to it, I'd work wherever I had a job and then figure out the coaching portion after that. I haven't even been officially hired within our district, I've subbed for 2 years, student taught 1, and am now working this semester in a different district on a temp contract. Next year will hopefully be the first of me actually working as a teacher where I coach.
