Did all that extra time really help them, you would think their fans would be happy they were trying to make that team better with extra work.

Everybody knows in Michigan that my boy Rich Rod is out. Michigan is quietly talking to others. He will not start the season as head coach, guaranteed. I'm hoping he comes back to the north east.

Come on. So the AD is flat out lying? Why would you wait until then to fire him and set yourself back another year?

I think its this year or he might be done. The underachieving teams their have been tough but NCAA violations is another. Put together he is coaching for his job next season in my opinion.

Yes. When this news started to leak, I never thought that Rich Rod's job might be in jeopardy, but this is pretty serious stuff.

I think the bigger issue is the manner in which Rich Rod stepped into the job. Going around saying "this won't work..this is not good enough, you are doing this, this and this wrong" at the ALL TIME WINNINGEST D 1 School in the country smacks a bit of smugness. Pretty embarrassing to back that up with a sparkling 8-16 record (3 conference wins in 2 years), the schools first losing record in 40 years, and now potentially the schools first major football violations.
And before anyone says anything about "he took over a program in bad shape" or that Carr had recruited poorly, keep in mind that Carr was 18-6 in conference over his last 3 years and please show me some documentation that those kids had not been offered scholarships to other top 20 Big 10 programs....

I wonder how many of us out there have participated in practices that were against the rules, or spirit of the rules though. It seems to me that he is the first to get in trouble in what will be a series of these stories. Think about Mangino... I didn't hear much about that story beyond what was a national headline. However it seems to me that story wouldn't have been a story had the success from recent years continued.
How long before a kid complains about mat drills being too rigorous and one of us loses our job over that? I am not saying that out and out disregard for the rules is ok, but how many of you have off season team workouts that participation isn't "mandatory," but it is highly recommended?
I'll read the articles later today, as I am getting ready for mat drills myself... this is a shame to hear about though.

Well, if he could get them to delete all the 20 minute cussing tirades they will be fine! Those shouldn't count against actual contact time since no one listens after the first two or three.

Being brought up a Michigan fan, and attend many games, I don't believe that this is that big of a violation: Trying to get kids to be better is what we are all about. I think it will be a minor infraction With that being said, Michigan has always been a clean program, and Rich Rod is in the news more then any other coach Michigan has ever had. I still think rich will be around awhile, if he gets into a bowl game John, just read your signature line. Thanks for the laugh

EXACTLY!!! I have been saying this for the past year; to anyone who will listen.. Michigan is a program that has one of the best foundations of football tradition in the country. He's and his staff has always based their philosophy on 'toughness'; putting guys through brutal workouts in-season and off-season.. There is absolutely no need to do change anything about the 'toughness' of Michigan football; he basically had a fantastic, established program handed to him and he's sh-t on it. He also should've taken a long hard look at his initial approach when coming into the program. Carr was always known as a 'player's coach'; an empathetic mentor and leader. To come in with a dictatorial attitude was very poor planning on Rich Rod's part. However, I don't think that we're going to see the end of this; I'm afraid that we're going to see the same thing out of Lane Kiffin at USC.. Come in after an exceptional coach, try to 'fix' something that's not broken and watch bad things happen.

In terms of these allegations, there's not much there: rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Beaureaucratic-needlers-detail-specific-allegati?urn=ncaaf,221682 " Stare into the face of bureaucracy, Michigan, and quiver at its awesome power. "Know also that every program in the country -- and I'm pretty confident when I say every program -- would run afoul of at least one of those infractions (or similar ones; it's a big manual) on a somewhat regular basis, as the minimum cost of employing fallible human being while continuing to dead-lift with the Joneses. Other programs, however, weren't the target of an investigation by a major metropolitan newspaper that left no stone unturned in its efforts to make a splash against a high-profile program. Michigan was, which is why it was Michigan's coach, president and new athletic director (not even officially on the job for two more weeks) in front of the cameras today feigning contrition over barely spilt milk." There's just not much to the allegations. I don't know what will happen, but this is pretty simple stuff -- the journalistic outfits are hyperventilating.

I think the coffin is shutting on the coach rod era because of the michigan mentality. michigan fans are living in the past when they were a big ten leader. heck the ohio state/michigan game is being replaced by the ohio state vs penn state game as the marquee match up.
