In your program, how do you involve:
1. Faculty:
2. Administration:
3. Parents:
4. Other groups from within the school:
Also, what are some of the things you do to support athletics?
Thanks!

We're hiring the Varsity Wrestling coach this season as a JV guy and to help coach a position (probably WR's). He has no football experience, but he's great with kids and will provide some good crossover with the wrestling program.
I think it's a good move.
I'm not sure if that's what you were asking...

We've got a good faculty staff and a great principal.
Parents are what they are, really need to do something to get them active and supportive.
School groups...we have pep rally's in the fall, winter and spring....every Friday is spirit day, kids wear the school colors and most of their teachers give them extra credit for it. Lots of participation and its carrying over to other days of the weeks....
Also, what are some of the things you do to support athletics?
We tell or kids that "the season" is year round......we expect them to play football, then wrestle (or basketball for the tall/fast guys) and then run track.....in our eyes its all great for developing our football program and our school. When they aren't in another sport, they should be in the weight room. We've made it a point to have the wrestling and track coaches speak to our kids at our football meetings and emphasis that we want them to play other sports....as for the basketball staff, they are still kinda iffy as far as sharing kids and buying into a "school first" mentality.....but I think they'll come around, they're good guys, but are just used to the old way of doing things....

Some of things you might find..
1) Honorary "Coach of the week"..a teacher/school staff member nominated by players who get a special T shirt and get to watch the game from the sideline... sit in on team meal etc.
2) Parents--moms serving pregame meal...qb club/booster club weekly meetings for upcoming scouting report, moms clinic, Senior parent recognition...

SWAT(Supporters of Waverly Athletic Teams), Parents group that feeds the post game meals such as sub sandwiches or some other easy to fix meal so the kids get to eat AFTER the game. Lots of times they will do pregame snacks/meals for JV and other level games.

Great stuff!
How do you guys support academics? We have study table, but I'm looking for other ideas beyond that. It's starting to wear off.

Couple things that most programs do. Have teacher wear your kids jerseys from teacher appreciation week. Go to another activity or athletic event as a team for support.

We have a rule that anyone with a D has to run a hill and get the grade up before the next week, otherwise they have to sit out a quarter. If it's an F they are ineligible to play and run two hills.
We get weekly progress reports from the teachers (a lot easier now with things like infinite campus) so we can monitor and pull grades and will actually talk with teachers if we see a trend developing with certain players. And the teachers know that they can come to talk to us about any players.

Things I have considered: 1. Art department helps out with designing/painting the end zones/middle of field. 2. Check with Math department about statiticians for game--have them also be in charge of calling local newspaper. 3. Show clips from Friday's game in cafeteria during lunches or during homeroom (if your school does that weekly). 4. I like the idea of having teachers "adopt" a player for the season and wear a jersey with players number or a button with players mug on it to games. THis would involve faculty more and give them someone to support if they normally would not be interested in watching/attending games. 5. Have a faculty tailgate before all home games. As well as student tailgates. Try to create a college atmosphere (grilling, etc.). 6. Have a "faculty section" as well as "student section" in the stadium for home games. 7. Have members of faculty serve as videographers...this includes them without having to attend practices/weekend meetings. 8. Invite everyone in the school to get involved. It takes an army to run a football program.

Our kids choose a teacher to wear their jersey on Homecoming, to school & the game. The kids now start "calling" their teacher choice as soon as the season starts and some teachers start lobbying the players to get a jersey weeks before Homecoming.
