Has anyone used a madden tournament as a fundraiser? Any ideas or formats to follow?

I have never done one as a fundraiser, but I have organized a few small ones over the years.
If you are looking to make money off of it you need to use a format that gives every player at least two games, no one is going to put up money to be one and done. I would probably go with a true double elimination format so that you can still win the championship even if you lose in the first round.
I would hold the tournament in your gym of fieldhouse so all the TVs are out in the open. Having it be a more public event will draw the interest of the players, because if you aren't playing you can easily walk around and watch the competition. Players love to be watched and it will build up excitement.
The biggest thing is that you are going to have to get some good prizes. If you have success with the tournament, but give out bad prizes they aren't comming back next year.

Did one a few years back... didn't make as much as we thought. Haven't done one since. Here is the flyer we used.

I have always wanted to do a Wii Bowling tournament. I think it would be a lot of fun and a lot more accessible to more people than a Madden tournament.
With Wii Bowling any age or gender can play - you can get everyone from Grandma and Grandpa to 1st grade brothers and sisters involved. You could set up 6 Wiis in the gym projected up to a big screen and decorate it up to make it look like a bowling alley.
There would be very little cost involved and the games go fast. I've always wanted to do it - just never have.
