"1) Pay attention to nutrition. First and foremost your body is a machine that is going to require the best possible fuel to grow and function at peak performance. We encourage athletes who are trying to add muscle mass and power to their frames to eat 6 small meals per day, that equates to two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners with each feeding spaced roughly 3 hours a part. Here is a sample days menu to build muscle and strength while avoiding fat buildup.
Meal 1- 4 eggs, 2 slices of whole wheat toast, glass of skim milk Meal 2- Oat meal, 4 eggs, skim milk Meal 3- baked chicken breast , rice, apple, skim milk Meal 4- sliced turkey, garden salad, skim milk Meal 5- steak, potato, salad, skim milk Meal 6- fruit salad in yogurt with mixed nuts on top, skim milk
*players can use peanut butter sandwiches/nuts/cheese for protein as well"
Coach, assuming that your players are in class several hours of the day and possibly in other sports or activities as well, when would they have time to eat six meals each day? Our kids go to school from 8:00-3:30 and then have practice after school. The kids in zero hour are at school from 6:45-3:30. Also, if I were a parent, I would be wondering who is going to subsidize my grocery budget.
I agree that nutrition is important, but if I were a parent receiving this letter, I would have a hard time with this.

EIGHT eggs a day?!
You'll have to change your nickname from "Seahawks" to "Chickens of the Sea"!

Great step reaching out to the important people. This should really help build a positive communication.
Is this a mailing or an email/e-zine?
One critique and feel free to ignore, but too many "I"s and "you"s.....should be replaced with "WE"

Here is how a student can eat 6 meals a day
6am at home meal one 9am during homeroom our cafe is open 12 lunch 3 eat before practice 630 dinner 930 bed time snack
those who "cant" or "wont" need only be reminded that they can keep peanut butter and bread right in my office, i have a fridge, so does the cafeteria
i also encourage them to hardboil eggs, carry peanut butter and a spoon, nuts, cheese cubes, jerkey and other portable proteins.
kids can also use protein bars, drinks etc but I never push that stuff as its not allowed.

johnson- nothing coach
"johnson, its 845 am and you havent eaten a thing, youre trying to do squats in wt training class on an empty stomach with a body that starving for protein and carbs?"
johnson- wasnt time, i was up all night playing world of warcraft
"johnson, what are you going to eat for lunch?"
johnson- doritos and a brownie

TDM--I like the letter. We do a similar things as handout at the banquet, and in our newsletter.

Love the idea of the letter! I am sending out a parent letter later this month basically to remind them that their kid should be lifting!
