I don't want to get into the controversy as, since there's no post about it yet, the mods don't want to dive in. I am posting because one interesting result of this is that Mike Leach's contract has now hit the public -- I don't think I've ever seen a big time coach's contract hit the web before. It's pretty interesting: a lot of his money is based on the other income (i.e. camps, endorsements, etc) where the University just guarantees that he'll make enough from it. It also is interesting where it lists what counts for cause and not for cause, and also the liquidated damages provision, expressly says that if he walks away he gets nothing, that if he interviews for other jobs he has to talk to the University first, and that if the University fires him what money he's entitled to ($400,000 for every remaining year on his contract.) So again, not trying to engage a discussion about this controversy, just using it as an opportunity to link to a coaching contract which some people here might find interesting. The contract appears as an exhibit to the motion he filed, so apologies that I haven't broken that out as a separate document. If this is better on the career board, someone can let me know. lubbockonline.com/pdfs/leach122909.pdf

that is a rather interesting contract.......... and I'm curious if anyone else has dealt with "this" at the HS level.....not necessarily with kids and their parents going bonkers, but has anyone (HC) dealt with a HC football contract that stipulates / defines teaching environment / schedule (probably not, but just checking precedent)? I know some folks battling this now, and I was curious if any other states besides Texas that afford provisions (untouchable clauses) for HC curriculums. (i.e. - HC position + athletic period + school vehicle + 1 teaching (social studies) class) ....with a provision that that teaching class, for example, doesn't get jacked around with later putting the HC teaching 5 classes instead of 1. I'm sure its all set by the school board, who don't really care about individual schools. Just curious if there was anyone that had experience with setting demands for HS athletic contracts. ** If you can't get the above link to work, try these; email offer counter-offer
Notice the base salary..........coupled with escalators*** and if those links go dead (scratch head) - here are images brophyfootball.blogspot.com/2009/12/leach-contract.html

All coaches in the nation need to e-mail ESPN letting them know ANY time Craig James is on their network, we will immediately turn the channel. Also do NOT use any product advertised during a show with Craig James on. Let the company CEO's know why. We need to go on all our message boards and relay this message. It ain't right.
