I don't even read that junk anymore. I'll read news articles on nfl.com so I have a general idea of what the big stories are in the league, but I never even touch that stuff when you scroll down- guys like Vic Carucci, etc.
For college I get news here and smartfootball.com, where the intelligent football guys are.

i cant stand to read anything from a sports writer or listen to most talking heads on tv. Michael David Smith is probably the best mainstream writer out there. hes the exception. but i wish these guys would report on injuries, roster moves and such and leave their opinions out of it.

Broph, is this a trick question to prove that us coaches don't really read? If so, I'm guilty. The first time I read this post I only read the quote that you conveniently provided. I didn't check out the link. When I did read the linked story I noticed this:
>>>We asked two SEC assistant coaches to break down the Gators and the Tide position by position, and we promised them anonymity for their responses.
We asked a Big 12 assistant to break down the Longhorns offensively and defensively, and we promised him anonymity for his responses. <<<<<
So I guess the real moral of the story is that coaches hate doing a reporter's work for him for free.

Who's the moran/maroon, here, though? Florida & Bama are unsound in the secondary? How so?
Forgive me if I don't really buy the "coaches" excuse. Does any of what was written sound like it would come from a coach? That line is just a blank check for credibility. There was a guy not long ago, who would talk to reporters about stuff he was doing, then pawn it off as an "annonymous white house aide said....". Now that guy just does fox news interviews for no reason.

A minus two yard loss sounds pretty "sound" to me

Pretend that you called a guy in his motel room and you still get crap.

For some reason, I assumed when I read that article (prior to seeing this post) that the coach was referring to blitzes and things of that sort rather than technique. Perhaps it was because I'd just seen Alabama get burned for a long play against Auburn when they sent Arenas on a corner blitz. But I see your point.
To clarify, I'm not defending this piece of 'journalism', but my guess is a little more context and it might not have sounded quite as ridiculous.

Brophy, when I heard Coach Sabin last year, his ideas are very different. I can see how someone who is not a coach might say that the things they do are "unsound." But the "I couldn't get away with it" comment might be about right. Sabin knows what he wants to do.
In the Nike COY, he went through the entire defense. I couldn't catch it, partly because I don't know anything and partly because it was the late session and I'd been there all day.
He went real fast, I'm sure on purpose. The young "wunderkid" Vass got it though and can explain it.
Sabin's secondary ideas are not standard stuff though. OJW

They play a lot of man-to-man They 2-gap They fire zone
The thow-away dismissal of 'doing things we couldn't do' could be true about anything. Some teams don't think they could get away with playing cover 2.....
I still don't know what's 'unsound'
The point remains, sports writers wantonly throw out jargon and phrases in an effort to sound like they are delivering information, but only prove they have no idea what they're talking about
