Top QB in Missouri was an O-lineman until High School and the top reciever was a center, kids change, it's called puberty: www.examiner.net/sports/x1945267364/Forever-IndiansWhat seemed to be important is the kids had fun, fell in love with the game and had confidence, because they played on a successful youth team.

Dave--this is the wrong message to send. I think we ALL know how important it is to put a kid in his future H.S position at the age of 7 and train him in the exact manner of the Varsity coach will. If a kid isn't running the same system as the varsity coach from ages 7-13, he will have no chance to succeed. Pretty basic stuff there, I am surprised you didn't know that.
It is foolish to worry about things like: Kid moving Varsity staff changing Kid growing Varsity staff changing again Kids ability to be successful
Those things are all foolish. The purpose of youth football is to train the kid to perform for the next level coach. Interestingly enough, this purpose seems to stop at the H.S varsity level. So it makes perfect sense for all coaches sub varsity to do everything in their power to glorify the Varsity coach, it is absolutely asinine to think that the Varsity coach should be doing the same and preparing kids for the next "next level".
Don't you know anything dave?

Sorry coach, for a minute there I was trying to put the kids needs first, hoping to build a love and appreciation of the game in him. My mistake, glad I didnt screw up that FB too much by playing him at pulling guard. ;D

But you really "Did" prepare that kid for the next level Dave.....you taught him how to get in a good stance.....how to block.....how to pull and locate the guy he should block.....how to best block some of the better athletes on the field, in space......all, basic skills a good fullback should know.......the title of the thread was a little confusing to me, cause when you teach them the basic generic skills, that transcend every level of football, you'll always be "getting the kids ready for the next level", whether you mean to or not, lol! Course, next level, is a relative term too.....in our case here, the next level after youth football was the 7th/8th grade school team, so not much of a jump in levels, lol
