Not sure if I have the facts straight, but did anyone see the Harvard/Yale highlights. Yale had a 4th and 22 from their own 35(?) They attempted a fake , got 15 yards but needed 22. The only problem was Yale was ahead with less than 2 minutes left. Their coach took full responsibility stating he " wanted to keep the foot on the pedal" What are your thoughts?

yeah, I believe those were the facts. To comment, I would have to know a bit more about their punter and punt protection. NCAA.org lists their punting at a 41.2 yard avg (unsure if that is the kick average, or the net punt figure after return). So, by getting 15 yards instead of 41.2 (or less ) they lost about 25 yards of field position. That is pretty substantial given the the fact they needed 22 yards.
That said, I wonder if this happens LAST saturday, before the Belicheck incident.

I saw the highlight on Sportscenter this morning. They reported that their punter was one of the best (I cant remember if they said Conference or Nation)
I would definately have to punt the ball away in that situation because 22 yards is about impossible especially with the lead and it was a low scoring game so apparently their defense had been doing well all day.
Now, the one plus I could see in this scenario is that who in their right mind would ever think they WOULD fake the punt. And they did get 15 yards so iti almost worked out for them.

I hope they lost the game, this is just pure crazy. Any as Coach D already mentioned Belicheck, any other coach would have been fired!

Any other coach on this board have a play that averages 35+ yards net?
Too many coaches self-defeat by looking at Punt as giving up, especially on 4th and less than 2.
Offense just had three downs to get ten, and couldn't do it. Time to bail them out for good of team.
Yale example is just ridiculous - head coach deserves all the grief he gets.

Seen this on ESPN last night. This seems like the coach read all the articles about the Belichick decision and misunderstood the stats a great deal, or was trying to make himself look like a genius (which even if they got it I'd be calling it luck).

LMAO 4th & 2 and you have Tom Brady is completely different than 4&22 with your punter. Sure you will fool them. But fooling them gets you a 15 yard gain. They will recover from being fooled in time to stop you from getting 22. It wasn't even a pass. At least then if you fool them and complete it, it is a first down. The other team being college players, and the other team being the Colts with Manning are completely different. I promise Belicheck wouldn't have done that against most pro qb's.

"Hey, they'll never expect it!" That's the coaching version of "Hey, watch this" as last words.

I agreed with the Belichick move.
I think this was pure stupidity.

Prime example of a coach thinking HE is going to win the game...

Punt and play defense, I just don't get it. By the way, the coach officially apologized to his team at the end of season dinner yesterday.

Then I had to add my $.02 just because I was bored yesterday.

Oh, okay I thought you were laughing AT me for some reason. If you had put my quote at the bottom of the page and just wrote "LMAO" I wouldn't have thought anything of it. I think it being on top and then your $0.02 being below that threw me off. : )

Devil's Advocate: They WON'T be expecting it. And if we don't get it it's like a short punt or a punt with a good return. By this I mean they did advance the field position +15. If they had punted 40 with a return of 12 the difference is just 18 yards. AND what if they had gotten it. Lucky yes, but sometimes you have to be lucky to win... Would I do it? No... Seems pretty desperate. But if the conditions were making it hard to punt, or my long snapper or punter was hurt and the back ups were sucking, or if the other team had a dynamite returner...I might just... Naw I wouldnt
