...died yesterday after a 12-year bout with breast cancer - only 42 years on this earth..
She was wife of Chris Spielman, former Ohio State and NFL Linebacker, current ESPN broadcaster.
The Spielmans raised $6 million for breast cancer research.
Her husband took a year off from NFL after her first being diagnosed (it was a miscarraige that led to discovery) to take care of her and their children.
When she lost her hair because of treatments, her husband shaved his head to show his love and support for her, and raise awareness of this disease.
Besides prayers for the Spielman family - us tough guy coaches need to make sure we spend enough time with and love the ones that matter most while we can.

Sad news. And this happening with the controversy about having mammograms later in life and less frequent. Crap.

This is truly a sad day. I wish the Spielman's strength in these hard times.

blb -- well said. I have been to so many award dinners and hear coaches thank their spouse for raising the kids while they were "raising" the kids on their team......as the season comes to a close, I hate to use the word "reconnect" with my wife, but that's sure what it feels like....I know I take it for granted sometimes.
God Bless the Spielman family during this difficult time.

This is really sad news and hits home with me. My wife is a Breast Cancer survivor of 3 years, she was diagnosed when she was 28. Now at 31, she is cancer free but it is a constant battle with living a healthy lifestyle and raising our two boys. It has been a long and difficult journey needless to say. Football season is particularly hard as I am not home nearly enough. As a head coach I preach family, togetherness, caring etc..I feel I am a hypocrite as I put my family on the back burner and take them for granted during the season. I have made a conscious effort this off season to be a better father and husband and let my family know how much they mean to me. My heart goes out to the Spielman family.
