The more years I coach, the less I want to have to do with some of the logistics of the team like making phone calls, arranging for team drinks, chain gangs, team books, team banquet, fundraising, concessions, pictures etc. A good team mom can take these tasks off your plate so you can spend your time coaching, not doing admin tasks A good team mom does this and more.
This season I was blessed with a GREAT team mom, she never interfered with the team and did many of the things I hate doing. In addition, for my 7th-8th grade team she did something really special. They took a bunch of action shots and video and put it into a real well done video, with lots of pics of me and the boys. Then each boy gave a video interview. 8 of these kids I coached for 6 years, many more for 5 and 2 etc They presented and ran it at the banquet, great music, really well done. I was blown away to say the least.
Same mom did signs in every one of our players yards the night before our big game.
Pick your team moms well, stake out your territory and pray for one like I had. The good news: she has 2 younger sons playing.

No doubt about it Dave, finding a great Team Mom should be a high priority task for any coach!

A team mom makes the difference. Unless she decides to send out mass emails that stirs up the parents.

Dave- my first year here we had little parent involvement, year two we had a great team mom form our moms club (and dads) and they made food/snack bags for our kids.
we have since renamed the moms club to TOUCHDOWN CLUB as they will continue to do things for the team/kids and program as volunteers showing their support for what we do.
nobody can do this alone and I am glad I dont have to.

My team mom for my 7-8 yr old team is great! She's very tactful with her words. In fact if I have an announcement that I want to make I just email her and she puts it out. In fact, in Hawaii we give out leis at the end of the year for volunteers like this and I couldn't imagine not giving one out to her.
