Grade 3-4 Lost 14-13 against 8-1 team that had only had 4-5 TDs scored all year against defense and had mercy ruled 5-6 opps We made 2 defensive adjustments at the half to shut them down, zero first downs. Went cover 2 with our corners, mirrored their best player with our safety who came up to 8 yards and we stopped covering 2 of their MMP kids. Came down to PAT kick block, great game on both sides. Best total game the kids played, just 5 yards in penalties
Grade 5-6 Won 32-14 against very good team whose max points given up was 14. Good spread team 4 wide, often sent out 5. We had no film and I was very perplexed why they didnt do any team offensive reps before the game. After the 1st quarter I saw why, at half up 18-14. Again made several def changes, walked the kids through at the half, got 2 Ints and dominated in 2nd. Again best total effort. Total 20 yards in penalties
Grade 7-8 won via forfeit unfortunately. Everyone has film of us, and we have really hit our stride and healthy. No one wants to play us now, last league game, extra games etc Lost only game in 4 turnover game to undefeated team (by 14) where starting QB, BB,LB and top 3 corners were out, starting TB/LB played with 101.5 temp. Team has YET to punt this season.
Combined we finished 23-4 (best combined in league), all 3 teams played their best ball in their last games. We had 2 kids quit (brother tandem) and booted another kid who was playing another sport and missed more than our player contract states. Expect to retain everyone else for next year. Very satisfying even though below our typical winning % and drop %
Due to massive flu outbreaks our perfect attendance figures were down, the number of kids with perfect attendance was just 58% this season. Lowest % of any season Ive every coached

Our week 9 we had to win twice! We were playing another undefeated team that has put up a ton of points, 32 points average per game and is giving up under 3 points on D average per game. They ran opening kick back for a TD went for 2 we stuffed them. We drove the field scored went for 1 got it so easy math right? were up 7-6. they score go for one and we stuff them. they are up 12-7 we score go for one don't get it, now we are up 13-12 right? They score go for 2 and we stuff them again. So they are up 18-13 easy right? We drive it in the 4th qtr score and got stuffed on the extra point. So the easy math is 19-18 we are up all we have to do is hold on. So in my coaching brilliance we get the ball with two minutes remaining run the clock right? I proceed to run down the field we are on the 15 with 15 seconds left we have it in the bag (I have no time outs left). Until I hear one of the refs (high school kids, we are 8-9 year olds) mention to the other that if we don't score it will go into over time? I told the ref to call time out so we could discuss this. The kid has them getting the extra point when they went for 1. The administrator over the fields comes over running across the field and goes nuts on my parents and staff who were going nuts (his kid botched the score). They weren't over the top, but you try and tell mom that her kid didn't win and they actually did wow. It didn't help he ran at our sideline screaming at them. He should have came to me and I would have taken care of it. So we run a play and go into OT. They put the ball on the 10 and we stuffed them and then the same for us but we scored. Yea maybe I should have taken care of the sidelines but I focused on the kids and kept them focused. I didn't want to lose them in all the chaos. My assistant I thought was going to choke me. for not going ballistic on the guy but I could see he wasn't going to change it. so I called for D and we punched them in the mouth. After we were shaking hands the coach from the other team says "Just so you know we had it 19-18 too" Nice lesson for your kids. It was quite the moment for me. A learning one at that. Hopefully that will benefit some one here. Proud of my boys they fought hard and we were missing two key players. so the real score was 19-18 but in the end it was 25-19. Were 9-0 headed into the Playoffs. I am sure we will see them again.

Coach,
Happened to us once like that in 2000, scoreboard was broke. 2 minutes left, BUT the other team threw a short pass, completed it and our kids rips the ball and returns it for a score. EXCEPT the other team was claiming it was tied. League head was at game taping the game, and left with 3 minutes left, assuming we won.
The other coach should have manned up and told the ref the score and avoided it all.

Always a good idea to check in with the officials frequently to avoid having to win twice! My team lost a HS 7-on-7 game at the state tournament a few years ago because of the same type of mistake.
We played our best first quarter and probably first half of the season last night under the lights. Our backfield starters only got 6 plays in because we scored on 3 possessions on our first play of the drive and on an interception return for a score which triggered our "runaway" rule of four scores at the half. They scored with under a minute to play to make the final 25-6.
We face a very physical 7-1 team this week in the first round of the playoffs. Best of luck to everyone still playing!

We lost. That knocked us out of the playoffs. The night before the game, our QB broke his freaking collar bone playing Manhunt... He also doubles as the Free Safety, so that was a huge loss to our team. We had to go to the number two QB, but running the Veer with the number tow is a bit more challenging.
That was not the reason we lost, however. The other kids stepped up and we had a chance to win it with a few minutes left in the game. We were losing with 4 minutes to go, by a score of 28-24... We were hitting out stride, moving the ball down the field, QB completes a pass to the TE on a corner route... Safety had a nice angle and CB from the other side raced backside...TE tried to make a move on the safety, as the CB swiped the ball from the back....fumble.
They got the ball on their 8 yard line...they managed two first downs, so it was over...
We finish 7-3...made the playoffs, had a great time....and can't wait for next year.

We played in our league championship game on Saturday. We were 8-1 and playing a 5-4 team that we already beat twice earlier this year (22-18 in week 5 when we had a 10-pt 4th qtr comeback and again in week 7 when we had our most - well, only - dominating win of the year 30-14). I think I mentioned last week that I hate playing in a 4-team league and having to play the same teams over and over again - I think we already proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that we were a better team than these guys.
Anyway, after 5 come-from-behind, 4th qtr wins this year, I guess turnabout is fair play. We scored with about 7 and a half minutes to play to go up 16-6. At this point, almost all of our backs/receivers/DBs are banged up - 5 kids in total. That's every single kid that either plays either CB or S on defense, and on offense includes our QB, top RB, and our 3 top receivers. One is out of the game and the other 4 are all hobbling around. Now, I'm not one to make excuses, but this really limited what we could do. Anyway, they get the ball and we make two mistakes (a blown coverage by a LB and a bad angle by another LB) that allow two 12-yard plays. On the second one, we get a personal foul call that never should have been called (the runner clearly thought he was still in bounds, our guy thought he was still in bounds, the video shows that he probably was still in bounds - if he stepped out is was by about an inch - and the officials hadn't blown a whistle). Anyway, that brings the ball all the way down to our 12. Then they throw a perfect fade pass over pretty good coverage for the TD. Their QB really isn't very good, but he made some incredible throws in this game.
Okay, we're still up 16-14 with 6 minutes left. They pooch kick and on the replay, it looks like a simultaneous recovery - our ball, right? No, they rule the other team recovered on our 35. We hold them for 2 plays, then on 3rd and long, they throw another fade pass - we know it's coming and we're screaming at our Safety to move over before the snap - he gets there a half a step late. Meanwhile, our CB (who can barely walk with an injured knee) has perfect coverage - on the replay you can see the ball go right between his hands - if the ball is an inch in any direction he knocks it down - and their kid makes a circus catch for a first down around our 10. They score a few plays later to go up 22-16 with about 2:30 to play.
So, we try our "Do or Die" kickoff return (see the thread in the Special Teams section about countering the onsides every time strategy). Anyway, the ball takes a weird bounce and our kid has a hard time getting on it - if he fields it cleanly, the play was setting up perfectly - he flips it on his knees to our QB who throws it forward across the field. Oops. They call an illegal forward pass so we start on our own 17 - of course, they should have blown the play dead when our kid fielded the ball on his knees on the 24 - not that it made any difference. Anyway, with our QB barely able to walk and only one healthy kid to throw to, we couldn't get anything going and turned the ball over on downs after 4 plays on our own 14.
They punch it in - final score: Bad Guys 30 Us 16. Even with all the injuries and a bunch (over 10 throughout the game) of questionable calls (including at least 4 that were clearly wrong), we still should have won. Auuughhh. I can't believe we lost. It's going to take a long time to get over this one. I'm in mourning.
Final record: 8-2. Despite the tragic ending, this was still an incredibly special season that I will remember fondly for a long time. It was the best and most rewarding season I've had in my 16 years of coaching. I just wish we could have finished it off right.

Our season ended with a loss in the "mitey bowl" 13-6. Lots of mistakes on our part that were not happening during the season. We finished 5-2-1 and averaged 20.9 ppg which from last year is a huge improvement ( 1-7-1 & 10ppg) so I am happy but dissappointed we lost the last one.
One thing happened during the game that I have to share with everyone here. Down 6-0 in the third quarter we are 3rd and goal from the three. We had been wedging down the field easily. I realize they a stacking to stop the wedge so I signal in a off tackle run. The play starts and our kids run a wedge up the middle that is stopped. On 4th down we signal the same off tackle play and again the fullback runs the wedge and we are stopped on downs.
When we asked our fullback what happened he said he ran the play we signaled which is impossible because our Head Coach was yelling the play loud enough for everyone to hear.
Apparently Fullbacks Mom was in attendence ( who he hasnt seen in months and does not live with ) and upon seeing her in stands decides to call his own number twice to impress her which resulted in turnover on downs.
We as a staff didnt put the pieces together until after the game when another relative filled us in. I quietly told Fullback after the game that he has to run the play we call and anything else is sellfish.
The biggest question I have is at our pizza party next week do I address the subject again. Fullback is moving up to junior pee wee but I'm not sure how to react. I want to get angry but I cant ( Kids situation is awful, no excuse though) Just talking out loud! I'm still a little stunned.

I had similar situation. I called 43 wing reverse twice and my tailback kept the ball both times and was washed under the unblocked end. I discussed the play with him and told him freelancing is not part of the team.
Once you have discussed it, leave it be, no need to rehash at the banquet.

We have advanced to the Finals this coming weekend after Finishing 5-2.
We were 2-0, then we lost two in a row. The boys responded amazingly and have won 4 strait.
Big Task this weekend vs an 8-0 Team.
Does anyone else have finals this weekend or next?

We are 8-1 and play another 8-1 team this weekend to see who goes to the "A" bracket tournament. Top 4 teams play in the 18 team division, so this has already been a great year.
