...When you are down 21-0 with 11:00 left in the first quarter.
...When your hear your senior leader say,"Anyone seen my helmet?"
...When you hear the same leader say,"I didn't know I couldn't hit the punter."
...When, during warmups at an away game, you hear the refs say, "every one of your mouth pieces are illegal."
...When you discover that the first-year single A team you scheduled as a replacement game is really a 3-A team with 27 seniors and you have only 24 players on your team.

When your starting defensive end tells you 45 minutes before kickoff of an away game that he forgot his jersey
when your 2 year starting left tackjle tells your assistant coach an hour before an away game that he forgot his spikes (natural grass field)

I coach youth football in a rough neighborhood. I don't have long nights. But, I do have long days. Ya'll are going to think I'm full of s**t on this one. But, this is all happened on our 3rd game of the season. BTW, there was no prior notice to any of this.
.... When your starting FB doesn't show up to the game because his father- who's fresh out of the pen- decides to show up at his house the night before and give lessons on behavior and decides he now wants to be a real dad and role-model.
..... When your starting Center doesn't show up for the game because his mother thinks it's more important to take the family out of town to visit her brother- whom we think is also currently locked up.
...... When your starting BB doesn't show up for the game because his mother & step-father thinks it's more important to play keep away from the only person in the kid's life that's semi-responsible enough to make sure that he showed up to the game- his biological father; whom is also fresh from being a guest of the state of Texas.
...... When the smallest, least athletic m.p.p. on your team finally shows up to the game right before half-time because his mama 'just didn't feel like getting up that early'. And, you're on the verge of weeping tears of joy because, up until that point, you only had 9 players on the field against the toughest team in the league.
Yeah... 'f' my season.

When your return man gets the ball stripped from him on the opening kickoff for a Touchdown.

...when a players parent screams they are going to report the coaches to the Superintendent because we made the kid play hurt ( he got hurt on one play and came out, no pre-existing anything ). ... when your seniors skip practice for a week to "save it" for next weeks rivalry game. ... when your water boy JV player has to be seen by the EMT when he gets hurt carrying bottles out to the players ... when a parent comes to practice early to get their son because he has been complaining to them about having to run too much for conditioning

WHEN YOUR LEADING RUSHER QUITS 5 MINUTES BEFORE KICKOFF BECAUSE YOUR RB COACH TOLD HIM TO "CARRY OUT YOUR FAKES".

These are actual events that occured during a game.
Muff opening kickoff on the 5 yard line. Lose 4 yards and go 3 and out. Punt from the 1 and lose 1/2 yard and give them the ball on the 1/2 yard line.
Yes we punted from the 1 and it bounced on the 10 and rolled back to the 1/2 yard line.

When your starting 2 way player QB/FS says he cant play in the game today because his Mom doesn't want him to get hurt. This was after being checked out by a Doctor clearing him to play... Yes, I coach High School Football

How about this, on the first play of the game, your soph wingback goes into motion and fakes like he took a handoff when HE REALLY WAS GETTING THE PITCH and the ball sails to your three yard line and is recovered by the bad guys?!....and the kid DOES IT AGAIN a couple of games later....

This one happened at a scrimmage once...everyone gets off the bus, goes to the field...nobody brought the footballs off the bus. We send a kid back for the footballs and he brings ONE.

This happened last week. My team on Kickoff return, my two deep guys "forget" that a kickoff is live and let it hit on the 10 and sit there. To top it off the their kick-off team thought is was a punt and runs down and hits it with their hand to down it. It sat their for what seemed like minutes before one of the guys knowing it wasn't a punt, falls on it. Needless to say we were are screaming but they couldn't hear us. As you might expect we worked on that a few times this week. BTW, we lost that game badly.

Man thank you guys I do feel better actually.
Here are a few from this season.
Today - QB could not come as he had to stay home and help clean up the house. The dead beat mom was told by the landlord that the place was a mess and if he came by again and it was like that they would get evicted. I guess he was coming over today so she waited until today to clean it up.
Starting guard and 3 tech has been out for a month sick. He still won't practice because Mom and Dad don't think he is 100%. Meanwhile he is seen wrestling in the hallways and skateboarding around town.
Starting Tailback and OLB does not dress as he is sick and his ankle is sprained. He told us he would, but then did not dress for the game as he did not feel fast enough. Well no crap!?! But still your better than the next kid...aww forget it, go ahead and blow off your senior year...
What have I learned this year? Don't convince a kid who wants to quit to stick it out. They will find a way to quit anyways. If they need to be talked into playing they won't stick it out when the going gets tough....

This really happened this year....
Saturday game, its pouring rain
freshman center doesnt show up for the bus ...our kids call him at home. "I got bronchitis, im vommiting everywhere" (huh???)
so its pouring rain and we put the second team center and qb working with a wet ball together....working well enough...but midway through the first half the startin qb goes down....now its second team center working with second team qb in his first start at qb ever in the rain and mud....
yeah, we fumbled 8 times that day.

When going to an away game and our bus gets caught in some ones homecoming parade....... then we take an alternative route & end up in OUR opponents Homecoming parade.
Now, we are the last vehicle in the parade to enter the school parking lot.
It Did however, P*ss my kids off.
No Rah, Rah speech required

you realize in the first series of your playoff game with the number one team in the state you didn't change the play card in your QB's wristband.

Love the outfit -- gonna wear that to some of our games... glad to hear others have problems...
Center sprains an ankle during announcements of starters when he jumps up to chest bump and lands awkwardly.
during a span of three weeks a different senior gets suspended on Monday for using alcohol/drugs over the weekend.
starting tailback tells everyone he is playing the last week after having a concussion two weeks earlier. AMends it during the game of the ninth week game to "If we win tonight I'll play in the last game." thought my assistant coach was going to kill him. Sure 'nough - we didn't win ninth week and he had a doctor's note saying he couldn't play 10th week.
we have a ref call illegal receiver downfield on a running play -- the call was made because #99 was the end. i know, I know...

During a game, you tell your starting SS that he has a pattern read on the #2 WR, the same terminology you've used all year. Not the WR #2, the #2 WR, SECOND WR in from the sideline.
He stands there, 10 yards deep, lets the #2 WR run past him, ball dumped over his head, TD.
He comes to the sideline, you ask him why he didn't carry the #2 WR running the seam and he rolls his eyes and says "Coach, none of the those WRs were wearing #2!!"

When the secondary coach asks you before the game who is eligible to catch a pass. Or when your Defensive Coordinator, asks "why we never send 2 men in motion?"
