Our administration this year changed our school rules limiting how much we can be out of the districtl. One of the things they have done is tell us we can no longer go to the state tournament as part of our job.
I'm currently writing a professional development request stating the reasons (How it is going to make me a better coach) for attending the tournament. Any suggestions?

I know it might not help you much.. but our state holds an all sport clinic in conjunction with the state championship weekend.

I would go more at the angle of how it would benefit your players. Being seen at coaches conventions and state playoff finals is very important to getting kids on all district and all star games teams.
Tell them the coaches association is voting on north south game players at the finals or at least taking nominations and it is important to be there in case you have a kid someday that will qualify.

I'm in Wisconsin and our tournament is all day Thursday and Friday. We can't interfer with the state religion of Deer hunting that starts on Saturday.

I use a personal day. In Ohio it is illegal to misuse sick days and could lead to loss of ones credentials under the new "conduct unbecoming" rules.

Ours is the Friday and Sat after Thanksgiving.
It's the most holy of weekends of the year. No school from Tuesday to Monday, the greatest holiday in the history of the world on Thursday and 18 hours of football crammed into two days.

I am also from WI, what are your current policies on you going to clinics or such? Does the school pay for anything?
Where I am at, I get two professional days for coaching clinics that I can use anytime throughout the year. I also am allowed to go to the state, but do not get reimbursed for it; however, I get my sub payed for. Hotels, tickets, etc is out of my own pocket.

We used to get the whole shooting match reimbursed! Hotel, mileage, tickets, food! We had it good back in the 90s!

I hear you dc, I just wouldn't admit to it on a public forum. Who knows who reads this stuff.
