Down 12-0 (1 TD a Kickoff return) midway through the third against a pretty fast North Omaha Boys Club team our kids kept fighting and we came away with a 16-12 victory. What a game!

We won in our conference semi-finals, 14-8. We are now 8-1 on the year and play for our conference championship next Saturday. We already beat our upcoming opponent in week 5 with a 10-pt 4th quarter comeback 22-18 and again in week 7 by a score of 30-14 (our only win by a comfortable margin all season). They run UBSW, some Spread/Jet stuff and this week they came out in an I formation for the first time (which was surprisingly effective). I hate playing in a 4 team league - even though all the games have been competitive, I hate playing the same teams over and over again. We've already beaten this team twice this year - I really don't want to face them again. Oh, well, I guess all we can do is play whoever takes the field against us.

We won 39-20 and secured a playoff spot with the win. We're now 6-1 with one regular season game left to play. We can secure a home game in the first round with a win this week.
Our game will take place Saturday night under the lights in our HS Stadium... a pretty cool experience for the kids (as well as the adults LOL). Looking forward to it!
Best of luck to everyone the rest of the way!

Down 14-0 early and came back to win 21-20. Our record is now 5-1-1.We are heading into the mighty bowl vs a team with the same record as us. When you have a winning season it sure goes by quick. Good luck!

My fears were realized, as the opposing coach, who runs a 4-3, managed to shut down our Inside and Outside Veer. He ran it with the SLB up on the TE side in a 7 technique, so they had 5 on the LOS, with the Strong Safety walked up into the box...
On the third play of the game, we managed to score from 60 yards out on an Inside Veer to the weakside....then kicked the extra point...
With about 4 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter, they ran what looked like the old Green Bay Power Sweep. Great execution. Picture perfect... Followed by a perfect extra point kick... We went into the half tied at 8-8.
On the last play of the 3rd quarter, we managed to score from 50 yards out on a Speed Option to the weakside....but we MISSED our extra point. Score was 14-8...
Then about midway through the 4th, they ran that same Power Sweep again...
They ran it twice all game, scoring both times... It was just great execution. They must have been sitting on that play, because they have not run it all year, at least to my knowledge... Anyway, they made the extra point kick, giving them a 16-14 lead...and eventually the game...
We lost, 16-14, which gives us a 7-2 record on the year. We play on Tuesday night in the playoffs, against a solid team that we beat 4 weeks ago... They were at our game this past Saturday, filming every second... We'll see how it plays out...

We stayed undefeated on the year with a pretty good pasting of the #4 seed in the play-offs. We play for the championship on Saturday against a team we beat 26-8 in the regular season. If we play like we're capable of playing we'll take home the trophy.

We lost our semi-final playoff game to the stacked team. I call them the All-Star Team. We got the ball first and scored on our first possession after that they started barrel rolling into our Center to stop our Wedge. They had great corners and Backers and stopped our powers and sweeps along with dominating Defensive Tackles we lost 42-12. This team has 9 kids voted to the All Star Game in our 10 team 8-man league. Our team only qualified 3 All Stars. Good news is our league has a 3rd place game prior to the championship so we get one more game. We play a much larger team with great offense, I suppose they'll barrel roll into our wedge also. With a little luck we may be able to pull off third place this year.

Well this wasnt our 8th game, but it fits in the right week. Was only able to have practice twice due to pictures and weather. Went up against a team that is undefeated and has pretty much only one or two weapons, their main one being their quarterback. I had my mike backer spying the entire game and our kids just did not come out to play. They couldnt line up in either of our 2 formations right. This was the first game were the mercy rule went into affect when we were down 41-0. But one highlight is we finally scored our first offensive touchdown of the season as time expired.

Its been said here many times All teams practice together, indys together, modular system allows me to leverage my best coaches accross all 3 teams and me as well VERY tight practice plans I rotate to the teams I do team offense when other is doing specials etc Often times staggered start times 1 team I will practice alone with 1 time a week All games are in a row at same field, except last Bowl game I recruit, select and agressively train my assistants well (book, videos, clinics) Mentor coaches I feel have talent, buy in, commitment Now have 3 VERY well trained non dads on 15 coach staff Been running same system for last 14 teams, All of the kids in the program have been running the very same thing with a few tweaks the entire time theyve played football Very simple and youth football specific/friendly system, teaching methodology We dont waste a second of practice time, fanatical about it I started and ran a 20 mil company with over 180 employees, and several start ups. Im pretty good at setting priorities, not wasting any time, motivating, mentoring, organizing, efficient/effective delegating etc Something you work at, train for and learn over time Started and ran a 400 + kid org etc, set of skills refined over time, I know how to effectively and efficiently deal with kids and people Im retired #1 is Im the owner/founder/dictator, no one to answer to, no comittees, Boards etc and now no kids of age to play
We were down a little bit this year at 23-4 and we lost 3 kids, so lots of room for improvement in the off-season.
You took over a DW HS team that has had quite a bit of success in the past didnt you? How did it go for you guys this season? At least they were used to seeing the DW, no sales job needed there which probably is nice.

Steve has had a season from Hades - just a ton of injuries and attrition - he has described it at length in the "F My Season" thread on the "Stories of the 2009 Season" board above. He has a great sense of humor about it, but he may not want to rehash it here, so I thought I'd give you a heads up.

Doug, Thanks for the heads up, no need to rehash it here, 2-6 and wins vs teams that went a combined 1-15. Lots of work to do, but if anyone can do it, Steve is the man. Heck I wrote him a letter of reference for that gig, he's got to turn it around. Im not moving to Maine anytime soon, as great as Im sure it is there. Until this flu season outbreak in 2009 Ive had over 80% of my kids with perfect attendance for the last 17 seasons in 3 totally different locales. They are still crazy for football here in Nebraska. There are a number of small schools here that get EVERY SINGLE male in the school out for football and many of the bigger schools have over 250 in their programs etc Maybe it's because we have nothing better to do no great scenery, mountains or oceans to distract us. Ive already coached the DW, if I'm coaching for someone else I want to try/learn something new.

By far the best coaching job I have ever done in my 20 years at it. No doubt about it, prayers and a sense of humor have helped me cope with the frustrations that seemed to occur daily.
