Grade 7-8 team won 28-14 against a team that had 8 points total scored on them the entire season. We were also at the 3 yard line as time expired at the half. Really proud of our kids.
Grade 5-6 team won 33-6 after leading 26-0 at the half. We did a "special play" to le the other team score, allowed us to get the ball back and let our linemen carry the ball on final possession. Mercy rule from the end of the 1st quarter.
Grade 3-4 team won 33-14.
Combined we are 18-3 so far.

We won 30-14 but it was kinda ugly. We also sent our second one to the hospital this year. One broke his arm right above the wrist 2 weeks ago, another broke both bones in his lower leg getting tackled. Subjectively: is there anything much worse than holding a kid's hand on the field while he's in pain waiting on the ambulance? Objectively: we've lost two of our better athletes, good thing we are talent laden this year, and this is another endorsement for single wing (or other direct snap of your choice) as we don't really have anybody left to take a snap under center as a QB.

Week 8 for us. We played a rematch against the team we beat 8-0 on a 4th qtr pick-six back in week 2. We came out flat and sloppy in the first half (reflecting a week of subpar practices), and found ourselves down 8-6 at the half. We made some adjustments and played much better in the second half and pulled out a 20-8 win (our 4th second half comeback of the year, albeit not nearly as dramatic as the others). We threw the ball well again, going 10-13 for over 200 yds and 2 TDs (no INTs) - 6 different receivers made catches. Our record is now 7-1 as we head into the playoffs.

Also week 8 for us (final week of regular season)... we beat our org's sister team 48 - 12, and everybody but the starters played a lot. First season as a coach, and we went 8 - 0. The kids make us look like geniuses.
Now we have 2 weeks of play-offs... if we play like we're capable of playing, we're going to be a tough out.

We won 19-6, We gave up the opening kick off up for a TD. We onside every time and it took a hop right to there guy and our kids didn't stay home on the outside they got a couple of great blocks and scored. first time we have been behind all year. It was good to see our kids not panic. The team we were playing are from another division but from our same district or high school area. they were a pretty good team 5-1. I wasn't to happy to hear they had been scouting our practices. If you are going to scout do it at a game and show some class it is a little over the top to scout 8-9 year olds at practices. I am OK with them scouting but make it to a game. In the end it didn't really help except for the kick return. lol were 7-0 now

Our team won 34-6 with 14 different kids getting at least one carry and our 5 TD's were from 5 different players. We called a timeout with 38 seconds left in the game to let a kid who has never even carried the ball in practice run the ball. Turns out he scored on a 50 yard run which really was unexpected. We ran an "act" defense to let the other kids score with 2 seconds left in the game and after the game their head coach was really vocal about how unsportsmanlike it was to call a timeout with 38 seconds left up 28-0. I tried to briefly explain to him we were not trying to score but he kept saying "I'll remember you guys next year just wait".
This team has not beat us in the 4 years I have been here in Omaha and while I understood his point of view we are here to develop the kids into the best football players they can be and win or lose we will use our timeouts to make sure we get as many plays for all our players that we can when the outcome of the game is already decided.
For as much as that coach's attitude rubbed me the wrong way it sure was nice to see his kids smiling after they scored. Man I love this stuff.

Coach - I can understand your opponent's attitude about taking a timeout with 38 seconds left and a 28-0 lead. I never would have done that. Yeah, you were trying to get the ball to a kid that's never had a chance to run it, which is admirable and all, but it sounds like if that was something you felt was important to do, you could have done it at any point during the second half (or maybe even earlier) - you certainly didn't need to wait until there was so little time left that you needed to call a timeout to do so. Your allowing the other team to score should have been a mitigating factor, though - after that I'm a little surprised that the other coach was still so upset that he wouldn't even listen to you. Let it be a lesson learned, though - take care of your players as early as possible in big blowout wins. Taking a timeout with seconds remaining when up by more than 2 scores is NEVER going to be well received, no matter how good your intentions.

We won our playoff game 29-20 to bring our record to 4-4 on the year. It was the most satifying victory of my coaching career. We beat a team that beat us 35-16 in week two.
It finally gave me some confidence that what we have been doing with these 8-9 year old kids all year has been pretty good. You could see the difference in how our kids improved. You could see our low risk offense beat their high risk passing attack. Most have deemed us the "Little Smash Mouth Team" because of our Wedge and Power offensive attack.
We are in the semi-finals now against the #1 seeded 8-0 team. I know we really don't have a shot because this team is stacked with superior athletes at every position. We will try to slow the game down hope for some turn-overs and try to maintain methodical offensive drives.

It was another coach on our staff who actually called the timeout but I understand what you are saying. We have had teams do the same to us and I didn't feel bad towards them about it but I could see how some coaches would be offended by it. Trust me we were taking care of many other players before this point in the game but there are just so many carries to go around and we want as many as possible to get to run the ball.

My season is over and we finished 2-5. This was my first year has HC and much has been learned. 1. I need to score more points. To do this I am going to Dave Cisar Single Wing. (from another version of the SW) 2. I need to do a much better job of slotting players. I had read and was told numerous times this was very important, but I did not follow through. I was over halfway through before I placed one of my smallest players at O guard. He did not look like a guard so I did not originally slot him there, but he sure proved me wrong. Big Coaching mistake cost my team a chance at two wins.

Coach,
WHile I know you and agree 100% your intent was good You have to coach to the perception when it comes to sportsmanship. Many goof coaches call time late to score again. You called time to get a weak player the ball. To those that dont know you or your players, they cant tell the difference. That's why you dont call time with less than 2:00 left in a game you lead big.

Even though it was another coach on the squad who called timeout I'll definitely remember coaching to perception to prevent this sort of thing in the future. As usual thanks for the good advice.

Cold night last night 10/19. Game started late.(8:30). Won 24-0. Offense struggled most of the game. Opening play my QB mishandled the snap, but pick it up and Darted for a 50yrd td. 2nd play on the next drive QB bootleg for 60 yrds. After that we went back wards. Didn't score again until late 3rd qrt. Defense play extremely well. Any way 7-0, and 5 games left until playoffs.

We won last night against a middle school that is in our region 26-6 to move to 7-0. One game left against the team we beat week one, and the atmosphere will be crazy next week at their place because 7th, 8th, and JV all play down there next Thrusday. They are our school's rival, and the Varsity game is next Friday at our place. Eight grade won last night to move to 6-1.
