Grade 7-8 won 32-14 in game I had starting LB and both starting CBs out with Flu as well as starting QB, FB and LG. Team we beat was 4-1, so very happy with the way we stepped up. Could only throw 5 passes with backups
Grade 5-6 won 26-6 over 3-1 team Grade 3-4 won 14-0 over pretty bad 2 win team
15-3 so far as a group

Week 7 for us. We played a rematch against the UBSW team that we had the 10-pt 4th quarter comeback against 2 weeks ago. We followed Dave Cisar's advice about keeping their offense off the field. The first half went like this:
Us: 17 plays, 60 yards, TD, up 8-0 Them: 3 & punt Us: 7 plays, 50 yards, TD, up 16-0 Them: 3 & punt Us: 12 plays, 80 yards, TD, up 24-0 Them: 2 plays, 8 yards, halftime.
We got a little scare in the 3rd quarter (nothing's been easy this year, LOL). We pinned them on their own 17 with the KO, but on their first play, we had their RB pinned down for a gain of about 2 yards - 3 guys had him held up, but no one brought him down. He broke loose and scored an 83-yd TD. 24-8.
Then they kicked onsides and recovered. They broke one counter play for about 20 yards then scored on a 16 Power Pass (something they had never showed before). They missed the PAT, 24-14.
Then I panicked a little and tried to set up a hands return team to guard against the onsides. With our line guys in the back, they smartly pooched to the second level and recovered again. I couldn't believe it. We had the game completely in control and now we were on the verge of completely blowing it. Luckily we settled down and got the ball back in 4 plays. Then our offense went about 70 yards in 10 plays for another TD. We stopped them again without a first down, then drove down to their 10 before taking a knee to end the game.
We had 57 offensive plays to their 22; 13 first downs to their 3, and about 325 total yards to their 125 (83 of which came on one play). They never stopped our offense - our 5 possesions resulted in 4 TDs and the game ending. It was, by far, our best execution of the year. Final score, 30-14 and our record improves to 6-1.

We beat our cross city rival 40-25. Up 27-6 at halftime. We scored on all of our posessions in the first half. The third quarter was awful for us though. We lost a fumble and it was returned for a TD and on our next posession we lost another fumble and they scored on a short field. We settled down after that scored twice but our second string defense allowed one more TD.This team beat us up pretty bad last year so all in all not bad.

We won another one and I didn't even get tossed (6-0). I knew I would get that rogue ref I was talking about last week on another thread.
We have X men in our league or restricted weight players that cant run the ball. They can't line up outside the tackles. They have to shade them, not line up two and a half yards outside there shoulder. The ref had total attitude when I talked to him about it. He said because we are so scrunched together that he wasn't going to require the other team to stay inside our tackle box and that it is based on a normal tackle box. The team we were playing was a lot bigger than us and it shut down our trap and power out of the SW. I can't say how proud I am of our line! Can you say wedge. We wedged them to death. It was great to watch them bite on every fake outside and have a short little FB run by for 8-12 yards a pop. Need less to say we won. I won't see that guy again. We don't play at those fields again this year. I don't know what his deal was but We were up 14 and I figured I wouldn't push it. We just went to the WEDGE! Great day. I just smiled at him after and said good job.

moved to 7-0 with a good win over one of the middle of the pack teams. For whatever reason our kids came out with more excitement and energy than they have all year, and we dominated. I think it had to do with the fact that it was the first "cold" day they've had a game on (low 60s and cloudy)... we clinched 1st place for the regular season.
This week we play the team that is 0-7... they are just not that good... very young, had lots of kids quit. We are going to have to work to not embarrass them. then it's 2 weeks of play-offs... can't believe the season is almost over. I don't know what I'm going to do with the withdrawal symptoms I'm going to have.

Nice win for us in a game that was more one sided then score shows.
54-30 Puts us at 3-2 after disappointing back to back losses.
Boys played hard, just have to eliminate the other teams big plays that send them end to end on us. Its not that they are blocking us, its kids over pursuing and not being able to recover.
Great game, 4 different kids scored touchdowns!
Big game this week vs 2nd place 4-1 Team

We finished are regular season with a solid come from behind win. We were down 19-6 at the half and won 26-19. The first half my defense played very tentative for some reason and it showed on the scoreboard. On offense we went away from our base stuff and ran some stuff the kids had been hounding me about all year. Even though it was stuff they ran as their base offense most of last year and it looked good in practice it looked like pooh in the game. So in the second half we made a couple of defensive adjustments and went back to our single wing and spanked them like they stole something.
The weird thing that happened is that we were supposedly done as our league did away with playoffs this year and went to a round robin schedule with the best two teams playing for the championship and then having a 3rd and 4th game. After Sundays games we were in fifth place and done for the season, time to start getting ready for next year. 8 o'clock Monday morning my phone rings and we are in the 3rd-4th game because an organization was kicked out of the league.
Today the story got even stranger as I recieved a call about an hour ago saying that we are having an emergency league meeting about this team, because they have gone to the press saying this is a race issue. This is far from being a race issue, it is a common sense issue and this organization seems to lack it. So I guess we'll see what happens tonight.

Well we just played our sixth game tonight and I wish I could claim the kind of success that you guys have had. we are 1-5 and only halfway through our season. Dont ask me why in the hell we have so many games. Our only victory has come from a forfeit by a very good team because they only had 10 players. So in the five we have played, with the exception of two games, our defense has been great, our offense just cannot move the ball at all. But the kids played hard tonight and we lost 13-6 and time ran out when we were on our opponents 30.
Our kids are working real hard and they are having fun, and that is all that really matters. I am making sure to remind the kids of that as often as I can because I can tell some of them are getting down. We have our next game this saturday against the first team we played that only beat us by a touchdown, so we will work hard in practice the next two days and see what happens.

Coach - most of here have been through a season like yours at some point - I know I have. As long as your team is competitive, the kids can have fun, and it sounds like that's happening. The most important thing is that the kids are having fun and learning a love for the game, and that they're learning some life lessons (discipline, hard work, commitment, integrity, sportsmanship, etc) along the way. If that's happening, you're having a successful season - some wins would just be gravy. Keep doing what you're doing and stay positive with the kids and hopefully you'll get a few Ws before the season is over. Good luck to you, coach.

Thanks coach, it is my second season coaching and first in youth and first as a head coach. Ive had to deal with so much from parents that think Im suppose to be training them to be pros, just like im sure all of you have, that i decided forget it, lets just have fun and see what happens lol. I have another coach that is helping me out with things that has been in the league for a while that told me I will be taking some lumps, which i knew, but gave me a compliment because I was able to run inside on his defense, which is the first thing they want to stop, so I was happy with that. But yeah we will just keep coaching them up and teach them to work hard.

What type of offense are you running? What plays are you having success with? What plays are you struggling with? On a side note we had our league meeting last night and the board voted by a very slim margin to not allow that organization to participate in the championship games. The reasons mainly have to do with a blatant disregard for sportsmanship and lack of respect for the game. It seemed like most of the coaches that played against this organization had some sort of negative experience.

If you are hearing negative things all about the same team or organization, there has to be some grain of truth to it. As for the offense, I had wrote before about trying to run the single wing, but no matter the amount of coaching, none of our linemen can shotgun snap or short snap more than a few decent ones in a row. So we decided to just go I formation and wishbone. We based our offense on just leads, dives and counters. We dont have the speed to get outside for tosses or sweeps. After two games ago, I decided to start putting in the belly series. I didnt want to be one of those coaches that changes things every week, but I figured we couldnt really do any worse than what we had been. So we kept a couple base lead plays, and started basing everything off of belly. It seems to be working pretty well, and we will get a chance to see how it is going this saturday as we play the team from our first game of the year that only beat us by 6 points because our kids didnt adjust to quads.

We fell from the ranks of the unbeaten last Saturday with a disappointing effort against a good, well coached team. A couple of our key kids just did not answer the bell and we as a staff have to find a way to "push their buttons" this week or we will go from 5-0 to out of the playoff picture for all intensive purposes. I can handle a loss if we play well, but was really surprised and disappointed we played as poorly as we did, losing 26-6. I got a little too cute at the end of the game down 20-6 and tried to get us to within one score. We had reserves in the game defensively and it backfired on us, as we gave up a long run for a score on the final play of the game. Down 13-0 at the half, we put together a nice drive to score on our opening possession of the second half, but just didn't tackle or make enough plays defensively to get us back in the game. We'll give it another shot this Saturday and see if we can improve! Best of luck to everyone this week!

We have run the Single WIng for 14 seasons now and NEVER have had a problem with the 2 yard snap. Heck we only have 2 coaching points, look through your legs all the way through and bend your knees. Ive run it all the way down to age 6 kids etc If you arent scoring any points and your defense is consistently VERY good like yours is, your offensive "scheme" is to blame. BTW we rarely run the sweep and Ive gone many games without running even a single play outside the ends.

We had a pretty disappointing defeat last Saturday to a 1-5 team that really played much better than I had seen them play. They beat us pretty bad 29-6. Our starting QB had the flu and I made a huge mistake by putting my kid in at QB because I didn't want to change things around on offense the week before the playoffs and had to coach him up at home really quick because I hadn't got our back-up QB any reps since week 2. Plus our back-up QB plays a huge role as our best blocking back. My son normally plays CB but I have a good back-up corner. The problem wasn't my son, he played well and averaged over 5 yards a carry out of the single wing but I think the rest of the kids were thinking why not me? Most played poorly, we took the team too lightly and had center snapping problems again. They had a huge DT that was blowing up our wedge and sometimes the power. Got called by an un-informed ref for crab blocking. He called it "Chop Blocking". I still believe we have the least talented team in the league and posted a 3-4 record this year. We have a playoff game this Saturday against a team that is very good. Exceptional passing team for this age but if we don't all have the flu I think we have a shot. They beat us 36-16 the first time we played them, this will be a good test to see our improvement against them. Its been a great year for the kids, I have lots of parent support and should be an exciting playoff game.

I just recieved word that the team that was voted out has filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the league. This means that my team is probably once again out for the game Sunday.

Our seventh grade school team moved to 6-0 with a win over a 8th grade team from a high school that is 8th-12th grades 22-0. They didn't get a first down until we made subs in the fourth. Our QB was 3-4 for nearly 200 yards and 3 td's, all to our FB off of Waggle. Our Wing-t was good, but running was tough with a muddy, wet field. QB would have been 4-4 with 4 tds, but one pass slipped out of his hands.
Eight grade went on the road and played on of the top middle school teams in the area, beating them 26-14. Since we were home and they were away, I don't know how things went. They are now 5-1 on the year.
JV won 28-0 last night and are now 6-2 and 3-0 in region play.
Varsity has a big game tonight against a region power on the road. If we win, we are in the drivers seat for a top 2 seed in the playoffs. They are 5-2 and 2-0 in region play.
As a program, from 7th grade to 12th, we are 22-5. The future looks bright with the success of our middle school and JV programs.

Had our sixth game, won 34-6. Wet and cold. Pretty much total domination. But twice this season we have had somebreak down on ST. 2nd game a 98yrd punt return and this game a Kick return. Over all in 6 game, offense is averging 33.3 points a game and defense allowing 8.6 points a game. We have had only 2 teams to score offensive tds.
11&12yrs old game 1 won- 30-0 game 2 won- 32-6 game 3 won- 30-0 game 4 won- 44-18 game 5 won- 30-22 game 6 won- 34-6
Our league rules- we must swap up backfield on a 24 pt lead.
