just happy to share. we ditched the 33 stack and went back to base 46, got two picks, one for td, four or five sacks. dw did what its suppossed to do, we ran powers and counters at will. 28-15
nice to have our top back in the lineup.

Congratulations. I knew it was just a matter of time for you guys!
Just curious, but how come you went 33 stack in the first place this year? Was it a personnel issue or did you see something else in it?

personnel...we have 2 sam backers for the 46, both were out in the same week, also lost one of our starting des in the 46...we also lost a good cover corner for 46...
hey we are happy to win but we are banged up again, sam/qb has a swollen ankle, and its the other ankle, not the same one that hes been hobbled on all year.
with the return of our top wing comes explosiveness to the offense and defense (he had two sacks at de). On a bright note, the two kids that were acting wings are now sharing a spot and they both ran very well as they are learning. one says to me "it works much better when I sprint" lol.

We just needed our playmaker back and we needed to stop fumbling.
we got our senior left wing/de back. he rushed 16 times, 209 yards, 2tds, had 2.5 sacks and a hurry at de..6 solo tackles too.
our soph duo at right wing ran for another 100 plus yards and best of all, they didnt fumble this week at all.
also, a jr corner stepped in front of a slant pass while playing bump and run, picked it and returned it to the house, (he had two picks on the evening) the senior de made the final td block on the way. everyone needs playmakers.
like you said, small victories, congrats on getting a td coach, as you know, youre my internet coaching idol lol.
I seriously hold my breath on every snap with these kids, they are truly the cardiac kids.
btw, this could be added to the "f my season" thread...3o seconds before kickoff one of my kids said to me "coach, I dont want to be back there" and I said "what?" and he said "Ill fumble, I dont want to return kicks"....so I replaced him. what else could I do?
btw, my qb, recovering from one ankle injury? has a golf ball lump in the other???

Chit, you don't want me to do it. In films on saturday I asked our 3 tech ME: "James...what coverage are we in?" James: "I don't know coach" ME: "why not?" James: "I play Dline coach" ME: "since you're ending up behind our FS, you better start learning coverage." Funny stuff!

fbdoc, I'm starting over also. This team is so similar to the one that played you in our first year of 2004. Not quite as bad, but close. I'm simply had too many transfers and theft of players to put a decent product on the field. Have too many Fresh. and Soph. starters. These kids would normally be backups or kids that didn't get to play, but they are all I have now. In a couple of years they will grow up and if I can keep the thieves off of them, we should be OK. I like the post about the dlinemen in the secondary. That's pretty good, wish I would have thought about that one. On Friday, one of my few Sr's had to play Center. Our started got his ankle broken in a cafateria prank. This Sr. played a little last year, so I put him back there. He didn't want to play that position, but was our only choice. Now, instead of blocking anyone, he would snap the ball, pretty well actually-even in shotgun, stand up and wait until the Nose had moved to one side of him or the other, then, grab him by the shoulder pads and judo flip him back into the backfield. Just grab him and run him past everyone, or throw him down, or flip him. While this may seem like a novel idea, he threw the kid into the QB a time or two, stopped my pulling linemen a few times also. He never got called for holding, I guess the refs hadn't ever seen anything that stupid and just let it keep going. We knew he was standing up, but simply didn't have an idea he was doing such a crazy thing. I guess he thought it was a good idea at the time. Today when I showed him the film, he didn't think it was such a good idea. OJW

Funny thing happened today. That kid that we had playing defensive line that got pushed all over the field Friday night was moved to linebacker.
My D-line coach came over and shook his hand and said, "lets see now, you're standing 4 yards deep right? Well now you can save yourself the trouble of being pushed back that far off the line"
It was funny if you were there.

OJW - thanks for the reminder... that was a nice crew. Your center sounds like a good candidate for my 2010 USA All-Stars team. Want to be the o-line coach and go to England?
