I've been a part of schools that have had their coronations at halftime and at the dance. There are several schools that are having their's before the game.
We are trying to have it before the game as it wouldn't interfere with halftime. I hate having my starters not in the locker room at halftime.
I'd like to know what other schools do and if you had a choice when would you like to have it.

Never heard of it before the game, I'll definitely push for that this year.

It doesn't interfere with anything because our players don't participate in the homecoming court.

My high school always did the coronation at a seperate ceremony during the week, but the court had to be part of the half time show of the game. So we always lost a couple of our key guys for most of half time. I think most of the schools around here do it that way. When we are the visitors to someone's homecoming the extra long halftime had it's advantages.

Ours is at halftime - never seen it any other way. Too each his own, but can't really understand why a coach would prevent a kid from being involved with his homecoming court. We always try to run a quick half-time so the rest of the team - his friends - can watch and help celebrate his coronation.

Ours is a bigger school so there are hundreds of other boys to participate in homecoming court. Our role in homecoming is to win the game.

We have a rally the day of the homecoming game... All of the underclassmen winners are announced then. Frosh, Soph, and juniors all have their own titles for the boy and girl who win.
The homecoming Queen (senior girl) is announced at halftime of the game the homecoming king (senior boy) is announced at the dance

We are doing ours after the game this year (something about the cross country team not being back from a meet until then). That might calm some parents... who wanted the homecoming game changed. I suggested Sept. 25 (our bye week). No one went for that...

My brother's team may be having a "road" coming this year. Due to the volleyball girls being upset with being on the road the weekend of the Homecoming dance, the school was thinking about changing Homecoming Week--to a week where the football team was on the road that Friday night!!!!
I'll have to ask him if they went ahead and changed it or not!!

I should add that the volleyball team would have been back in plenty of time for the dance. I asked my brother why they were so upset, and he told me he didn't really know.

I've always seen it done at half. Yes its the football team's job to win the game (Homecomming sucks if you lose). However, let the kids have their moment. Normally there is enough time to make adjustments with those kids anyway.
