Most coaches are labeled as ____ coaches most of the time. Such as I, Spread, Veer, 4-3, 3-5, etc.
If you could reinvent yourself from a coaching stand point what philosophy would you change to?
List what you do now and what you would do. I would like to see where people come from and where they go.
Not completely sure which direction I would go to, but I can see going from the I to the Spread. And have always liked a 4 front, instead of the 50 we ran.

I wouldnt change anything. But if I had to change I would go from "traditional" drop back passing to run and shoot. And on defense I would just use a play on words or numbers 3-4 to a 50.

On offense I'm pretty happy with running the unbalanced single wing, but if I had to change I would probably go to a veer or flexbone. On defense I probably wouldn't change from our defense because we are so flexible. We use a 35 base, but will also show a 53 and 44 look. I guess if I had to make a change I would use more cover 2.

I would reinvent myseld as a defensive coach... actually thats basically what i have done this season. I was always an Offensive guy first... and i just also coached the DL here. But this year i have put much more effort into the defensive scheme, and im actually enjoying defense much more this year than coaching offense

We are double wing/46
Every time the defense gets shredded or the offense struggles we get lots of folks who want to reinvent me ....or replace me of course.
if I had to reinvent myself as a different sort of coach...spread single wing with a heavy dose of smashmouth running from a qb who could also throw tight spirals to six foot 4 basketball/track stars. Defensively wed run the 335 with 8 kids who can tackle and pluck the ball from the sky.
....but I live in reality and we just try to get better at what we do.

I wouldn't change much of anything. I love what we run on both sides of the ball, and I'm proud if we do it well enough that it has become an "identity" or "pigeon hole."
I suppose I'd want to understand how to coach the Veer better...but that's not really a high priority...so why bother?

Spread, 4-4 and 4-3......... I am pretty committed to 4-wide football right now.....I jst see the field better from that POV. Plus, the WCO philosophy has made a huge impression on me. Defensively, it is the philosophy I agree with (bend but don't break) If I were to reinvent myself, I could see two offensive systems I would enjoy running (and currently marvel at anyhow)..... Air Raid (whose practice structure I hope to steal and implement more and more of) Red Faught Run and Shoot (the original gunslinger). Not really a philosophy departure, but a schematic one. Defensively, I do not think most teams we play adequately prepare for the blitz, or have a "go to" way to disrupt cover 1/0 (like we do). Good teams my gash us, but I wouldn't be opposed to this: www.reporternews.com/news/2009/aug/24/deleon10-1/At least we could avoid the dreaded "death march" we sometimes get from some teams (12 play Power and Trap marathons to the endzone). Either way, their drives would only last 3 plays (3 and out or 3 and score), and we get the ball back. Wild way to play......but isn't that the point of this thread?

I would definitely be better looking and younger. One of those GQ, babe magnet types.

I would definitely be better looking and younger. One of those GQ, babe magnet types. Another reason I wouldn't change anything about me Offensively, I don't really have a system or philosophy I'm in love with. I've a few crushes, to continue the metaphor, but nothing's really captured me. As a result it's kinda hard to say what I'd 're-invent' myself as because I'm not really committed to anything. It'd be like planning out who you're going to date after breaking up with the girlfriend you don't actually have. Defensively, I don't like to label myself as a 4-3, 3-4, 4-2-5 etc guy, I'm a defensive coach who puts an emphasis on effort, attitude, and takeaways. The scheme is just moving people around in different spots, the defense is what I believe in and teach to my boys. My scheme will change with personnel, talent, and need, but my defense won't.

I'd move more away from the Power I to a hard nosed zone running game. Still run the snot out of the ball, but with zone schemes.

I would reinvent myself 30 years younger. Then I might have time to really learn at least one offensive or defensive system and it wouldn't matter to me which one.

I never stop studying the game.
I never stop doodling new ideas, 90+% of which are sheer crap.
I never stop looking at ways to revise things I've already committed to print (updating playbooks, etc.)
I never stop looking for new ways to fit a given piece into the puzzle to make a new picture.
In short, I reinvent myself all the time.
