Anybody else get started today? I feel good about our team, they're ready to play some foosball. I'm expecting a mini cluster * this afternoon tho. Last week after the jamboree one of the 3 counties dropped out of the league which took 4 teams out. So they had to redo the schedule and it looks like some people aren't sure when they play.
Anyway, good luck to all.

Anyway, good luck to all. Yeah, we start today, too. We also have a bunch of confusion about the schedule. I think we have a decent, but not great, team. However, I'm very worried about today's game - we're playing a very strong team and we have a bunch of injuries - I just hope we don't get anyone else dinged up today and that we come out of today's game without being humiliated and demoralized. We'll see - maybe we can pull off a miracle.

Our first regular season game is at 7:00 tonight. I think we're ready. Had a pre-season game last Saturday and what a game. I'm coaching the non-select 12 - 14 year old heavyweight team this year; meaning I get what's left after the other coach at the same level picks his team. Well, I found out the team we played in pre-season brought their entire heavyweight team. But we kept up with them and nearly managed to pull out a victory. We scored a touchdown with 20 seconds left in the game, making the score 44 - 45 them; but were not able to convert.
Still, I was very proud of my players. They took on a bigger, stronger, faster team and very nearly came out with a win.
Good luck to all you here on Coach Huey who have helped me give my players a better chance to succeed.

Justryn2 - what offense are you running? I don't care who you're playing - putting up 44 points is impressive. If you did it against biggest, stronger, faster competition - well, that's certainly worth hearing more about. Can't wait to hear what y'all do tonight.

We started today against the team that has gone undefeated the past 2 years in the league. They are one of 2 teams from a local community that stacks their team with the best kids they have in their program....
We mercy ruled them. Had them down 30-6 at halftime. 2nd half was a running clock, and we cleared our bench on both offense and defense. It felt really good.

Scrimmage: Age 10-11 scored on 7 of our first 10 plays starting all drives from the 40 . We scored on first 4 plays in a row. The other team settled down vs our 2s, we only scored 1 time on 10 plays and then we scored just 2 times in the last series of 10 plays. Outstanding execution on offense vs a .500 team last year. On defense pretty much shut them down with the exception of 2 long TD passes, one which was well defended, the other we blew the coverage. We need work there and will make a few personell changes next week. Need better aggression and execution from 2 of our 4 backs, line looked very good. Zero bad snaps, not even a close one.
Age 7-9 kids looked pretty rough vs a not very good team. Scored 3 times on opening 10 plays from 40. First team didnt give up a first down. 2s scored once, then 1s drove for another score. Had 1 player run outside the kickout block ( 1st year with us, bad habits from his previous team) sat him, when he came back, problem solved. The team we played wasnt very good at all, and while we "won" we certainly didnt dominate like we should have. Zero bad snaps, 1 horsecollar penalty.

We won 32-21. First drive we went on about a 8-10 play drive which I thought was pretty impressive. Should have scored quicker, don't think my line was coming off like they should have. But a lot of that's on me, I did a lot of mental work with them this week and I think it showed.
On a side note, that was one of the worst experiences I've had coaching for some reason. I got caught up in everything around the game instead of coaching the game itself. I was flipping the board for our no huddle, trying to make sure everybody's getting their snaps (I seem to be the ony one worried about that), plus I can't see crap from the sideline. That's the first game I've coached in about ten years where I wasn't in a press box where I could see everything so I couldn't tell what was going on half the time. I've still got a ways to go.

Hi all, here's a follow-up. In our first regular season game we took a beating; 31 - 0. Coach Doug, we run a hybrid Wing-t offense and, like you, I thought we were on to something when we put up 44 points. Last Saturday we were still able to move the football but just couldn't score. It seemed like every time we got a drive going we would do something stupid.
Like on 3rd and 2 when a kid comes to the LOS without his mouthguard in so now its 3rd and 7. Or when we had second and short and the next two plays we go backwards because the QB doesn't run the play he called in the huddle. We really were overmatched athletically in this game as well. Just the same, we played so poorly.
I tried to crank up the intensity level this week in practice. We'll see how it goes. Game 2 of the season starts in less than six hours. I have two players out with injuries; one happened in practice and the other happened in gym class. I also have three players who will miss the first quarter because they missed practice.
Thanks again to the Coach Huey crowd. Best of luck to all.
