Same for us - well, we're scrimmaging at another association's jamboree. Our first game is next Saturday - by far the earliest I've ever started a season. I'm heading out the door for the scrimmage in about an hour. Woohoo!!!

Scored on our 1st, 3rd, and 6th offensive plays. They scored on the last play of the game. I'd like to say it was on our MPP's, and it mostly was, but they went around our #1 end to do it. He got sucked in on a fake.
Also got to hang around and watch some of the competition. I think we've got a decent talent advantage over most of them. There's also a couple of pretty good teams. I'm excited. We open the season against our big rival this Saturday.

that sounds like a good jamboree, amigo. what i like about your description is that the last play provides a big-time coaching moment for this week in practice. good luck this weekend.
btw, i love your Trooper Taylor quote... so true.

It didn't go so good for us. The jamboree we went to was kind of a round robin thing with a handful of teams, so we scrimmaged two teams (20 plays each way against each). Both teams were pretty good, with one being very very good. Our offense was terrible. It's not terribly surprising because we run a pretty complex offense so it's not unusual for this team to struggle early, but our first game is next Saturday (a full two weeks earlier than we've ever started before), so I'm very concerned. We have first year players at RB and at some WR positions and they look pretty lost right now. We're going to try to simply things for our first few games. We have to get a lot better quickly or it's going to be a tough season.
My defense, however, did okay (I am the DC, so this is my main area of responsibility). We've only had two full practices devoted to defense, so we hadn't prepared for any system offenses (one of the two teams ran DW). Overall, we gave up 4 TDs and got a turnover. I'm very confident that in a real game, we could shut them both down. The DW team caught us on a couple things that we hadn't prepared for, but that I'm confident we can stop easily (plus they ran around a MPP kid playing DE). The other team scored on one play where we only had 10 guys on the field - they ran right at the vacated spot (I had told the kid directly to his face right before he needed to be out there - all he could say was something like, "Oh, I didn't think you meant right away..."). There other TD was set up by a pass play using crossing patterns (we haven't worked on trading off receivers yet - it should have been an INT rather than a long gain) and a long gain around the same MPP DE. Otherwise, we were pretty solid defensively.
We have a ton of work to do, but considering my #1 S (and WR) got hurt on the first series, and my entire secondary and most of my LBs are new this year, I think we'll be okay. We just have to get some offense going.
