I was just wondering what your personal philosophy is when it comes to your team? If you were asked one day what you believed in (football wise) what would you say?

This topic pops up about once a year. The responces usually start out like this and then turn into a semantics debate about what is philosophy vs scheme vs mission statement vs ..... Maybe if you can narrow the parameters of your question as "Personal Philosophy" and "... what you believe..." can encompass quite a bit.
My personal philosophy is to strive to bring out the best in the young men who come out for football.
I believe that football is FUN - but winning is MORE FUN. We will do the things that winners do so we can have more fun.

I believe in getting the ball, as many times as possible, to people who can score
I believe in maximizing what I have rather than trying to plug "what i don't have" into a "this is how we've always done it" mentality
I believe in being efficient in my practice time, my schemes, my carry over, etc.... the only thing we all have in common is TIME.
I believe I do not run the perfect offense - at this time... however, I believe that I will find it through perfecting what I do and learning from others that do similar things.

I will follow Hueys example and just post the things i believe in
i believe coaches have to be passionate about coaching, otherwise go get another hobby. Family comes first, then football (for me anyway) thats it, everything else falls somewhere in line behind these 2
I believe in getting the ball to fast kids in open space
I believe technique , work ethic, and coachability beats talent
I believe in perfecting our base series before adding a ton of new stuff. Id rather run 1 play great than 1,000 plays just ok or worse
I believe in being organized in every facet of the game, not just practice. This means being organized year round with everything you do, have a plan set up for your program and stick to it.
I believe players will play better for a coach they like compared to one they fear
I believe no football game has ever been won between Sept-December. You win from January-August. Jan-August is putting in your time at work, you cash your check in september-december
I believe a coach's job never ends
I believe you can never know enough as a coach. There is always something else i want to learn
I believe in being disciplined and working hard , BUT* if your kid's view of football turns into a job, instead of something your kids do for FUN, then you have gone too far
I believe in scouting and watching as much film as possible
I believe in the following, "Practice what you want to run in a game and Run in a game what you have practiced"- Dont be a guy who wants to win 7 on 7, or do needless drills at practice. Make everything tie back into football somehow and your Offensive or Defensive Scheme. The second part refers to "draw it up in the dirt" coaches. To run a play in a game you need to have run it succesfully many times in practice. I have seen coaches try to put a play in at halftime and it never works out well.
I believe a coach's door and heart should always be open to any kid in your program. Never turn a kid away who is having a problem or just needs someone to talk to. Its sad but to some of these kids, we as coaches are the only father figures in their lives.
I believe coaches should never argue in front of the kids.- You are supposed to be a staff and portray a unified front, save it for the office after practice and hash it out then
I believe a HC is only as good as his assistants
I believe neglecting special teams is like shooting yourself in the foot
I believe in keeping kids involved, dont have kids standing around during practice, they need to be involved or getting work in some way
I believe your players will play the same way they practice
I believe in finding an offensive or defensive identity but being flexible enough to adjust from year to year depeding on your talent level
I believe wrestling makes you a better football player
I believe in study hall for your team
I believe the HC needs to be on campus and at least 1 assistant
I believe in getting parents involved and reaching out to them to assist you in fundraising and team events
I believe in networking with as many coaches as you can
I believe in Dynamic Warm Up followed by a short static stretching period to begin practice every day
I believe in conditioning the anaerobic system. Football is a game of full exertion for 5 seconds followed by 30 seconds of rest, Condition the same way
I believe in never giving up on a kid ( i have a kid who has been horrible for 3 years but has gained a little size and will be a solid backup at OL and DL for me this year)
I believe in using chutes and the sled every day with the OL
I believe in going live or thud during practice. I hate doing anything half or 3/4 speed
I believe height is the most over rated aspect of looking at a football player
I believe in being confident, almost boderline cocky. Carry yourself with some swagg!
I believe there are no bad kids only lazy parents
I believe... this post got way longer than i originally planned, i got on a roll and kept going.

I believe there is a difference in wanting to win and being willing to do what it takes.
My personal COACHING PHILOSOPHY is that its my job to make a complete person who wins on and off the field.

There is one thing that I have been kicking around in my head recently and it is this:
A good linebacker will get you 70 tackles, it is my job to allow him to make another 30-40.
Don't change great players, help them get better.

I believe that football helps build men of character and integrity.
I believe if you want to know anything completely you teach it to others.

I have two. I always start with a life philosophy first and a coaching philosophy second. Both are critical and work together.
Life Philosophy: A successful man is built on a foundation of integrity, gentlemanly behavior, a strong mind, responsible citizenry, and leadership by example or oratory. A man that is firm in these principles will experience life to the fullest, while at the same time being triumphant in all that he does.
Coaching Philosophy: I want to maximize the academic and athletic potential of each of my players. I want their experience with my team to be successful, and to give their lives a useful template to find their own triumphs. Their teams will be built on love and family, for everyone that is a part of it. Sometimes love is tough, sometimes it is compassionate. No matter what, it conquers all.

I believe in coaching every play.
I believe in using short, quick, relevant catch phrases or key words that players can understand.
I believe that coaches shouldn't stand around.
I believe players need to believe and trust in everything about you....even off the field.
I believe in keeping a tradition that was started before my time here alive and thriving.

Her is our Vision and Mission Statement straight out of our coaches/players handbook:
VISION
To Be Region Champions as well as State Champions (we are a brand new school opening with Frosh and Soph - 3rd Year)
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to take the student-athlete where he can not take himself. As coaches, we will be supportive and active in promoting academic and athletic achievement. We will exhibit an exemplary foundation of leadership and mentor our players to relentlessly pursue the "Character of a Champion" with its cornerstone being... FAITH, FAMILY, and FOOTBALL.
We feel that success is measured in terms of the ability of the student-athlete to reach their full potential. Our responsibility as coaches is to assist our players and help them reach their full potential as people, students, and athletes.
We will love our players! Our objective is to develop a family type atmosphere within the football program. We understand that for our football program to be successful there must be coaches who care about players, players who care about coaches, and most importantly players that care about one another.
Ultimately, our number one priority is to assist in the creation of better fathers, husbands, and MEN which will have a far greater impact upon the world than winning football games!

I believe that players play and coaches coach.
Don’t play with puppies if you don’t want to get licked.
I believe that 14-18 year olds have no self discipline. Do not mistake discipline brought on by the program for self discipline.
I believe that at the fundamental level routine is paramount for developing discipline.
I believe that its a fine line between intensity and emotion. Intensity is clutch, emotion is choke.

My personal coaching philosophy: I will give my best effort to make you good football players, but even greater men. I believe in being demanding, and requiring self discipline. However at the same time, I understand "they don't know how much you know untill they know how much you care". You have to build a bond with your players before they will run through a wall for you. Each kid has a specific way of motivation. Some you have to kick in the {censored} while others you have to pat on the back.
Offense Philosophy: Have just enough to accomplish what you want to do to a defense) and very few plays (4-6 max). Run first to set up the pass. Paying attention to the little details is usually what makes a unit successful. Fundamentals and technique overrule any fancy schemes
Defense Philosophy: STOP THE RUN! Develop the most aggressive attitude out of each player you can get. Force them to throw the deep ball.
Special Teams: Having a sound special teams committment can help average teams win ball games.

More along the line of general coaching
I am now, and will always be...A student of the game
I will attempt to carry myself as a professional at all times.
I accept all that come to learn, and try my best to teach all that the sport of football encompasses, both on the field and off. And will recognize off the field achievement as equal to the value of their accomplishments on.
I will never forget that every athlete is someones, son, or daughter, brother or sister, and will relate to them as if they are my own
I also accept that my opponents, are children also, just like my own, and will utilze no competative practices which are harmful or injurious, even if it means suffering defeat.
I accept that there will be very high expectations of me.
I will attempt to teach my players, that this game is only the small picture, and that the relationships forged on this field will far outlast their years on
I teach my kids that this sport warrants respect, not everyone can participate in it , and quite a few don't even want to. This sets them apart from those involved in other sports, they are a member of something special, and they deserve respect for that.
I strive to forge the mentality that no matter what intelligence, and sheer determination, can overcome anything.
Being a coach means helping others, this is not just limited to athletes, it applies to fellow coaches as well.
Everyone involved in this sport, deserves respect, for their beleifs, for their dedication, and for courteous and generous contributions to others. therefore I will not scoff at the beleifs of others.
I recognize the work of those who came before me
I beleive it is far better to excell at one thing, than to be just proficient in many
Never be too proud to ask for help
The only thing which is impossible is that which is never attempted
