Which is better for the sideline on gamenight:
Gatorade or cool water? I say cool water b/c often times ice water hits the stomach and causes cramps.
I buddy of mine in coaching has a brother who is a sports physiologist and he told me Gatorade is overrated and hyped. Just staying properly hydrated during the week and on game day with water is shown to have the same results. Plus it is cheaper.
Looking to build a consensus one way or the other here on the board.

Get 10 so called experts and you'll probably end of up with 5 voting for Gatorade and 5 for water. I've been coaching for a few years with the past 9 in the heat and humidity of South Florida. We have used both Gatorade and water over the years and my opinion is that Gatorade is no better than water at keeping kids hydrated. There are other factors of course such as hydration and nutrition during the week but for the past 4 years we have been water only using a Waterboy Chiller during practices and games.

We are a water program. Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I played our beloved game I drank Gatorade before games and water during.

Gatorade after the game. Water before and during. The key for hydration is getting it before the game.

9 years of military says stay away from giving kids the option. we had a guy during annual training drink primarily gatorade in the field...95 degree heat, mass humidity. he "fell out" on day 3 because he didn't drink water with it. gatorade gets you much needed electrolytes, but you don't need a whole lot of it. coachcathey said it exactly right...start hydrating well before the game. i tell my guys that they should be pissing clear all day on friday, which means they better go to bed with a large glass of water in their gut, and a 20 oz bottle of water on their night stand. i would recommend gatorade at halftime, water on the field.

I worked at floridas summer camp this year, and they had both out their water and gatorade. The trainers said that yu still need to drink water, as gatorade only brings back the electrlytes. So I drank three glasses of water at mealtime, and then drank gatoradeon the practice field. I felt great. The players should drink waterall day every day, and then have gatorade their for them aftyer practie and at haltime. Otherwise it should be ater 24/7

Water, water, water...you don't want to drink gatorade before a game as the sugar will be something that hinders you. After the game or at halftime then you can have some gatorade, but before the game could cause cramping and dehydration.
