...WATER-PROOF coaching shoes.
Anyone else into these? They might have changed my life...
Before you read any further-- no, I am not plugging a certain shoe or brand of shoe (that's why I'm witholding the maker...).
I just can't believe how dry my feet and socks are after working out on our (usually wet) practice field with the kids every morning. And the cool thing is that no one can tell that they are "special" shoes. They aren't god-awful-looking...
Ok. I'm done. That's all...

OK, 48 Out with it, what are they? Never thought about that, just walk around with wet feet, I'm in florida the closest thing to a rain forest. I guess us slow people just take a while to figure stuff out.

I have been wearing Merrill's (Spelling?) for the last 8 years; they are great. My feet stay dry when we are out in the earling morning, as well as when it rains. I wear sneakers to "hang out" in, but I wear Merrill's to coach in. I can't believe it took me so long to figure it out.

Ok, but believe me when I say that I don't have any affiliation with any shoe company (I'm a teacher/football coach...) I accidentally stumbled upon them when I was at a local sporting goods store. I was just looking for a normal, affordable, comfortable shoe that I could beat the tar out of during the summer/fall (for practice and such). I found a simple gray pair, tried them on, and asked the lady to box them up. As she was doing this, she was making small talk about how they were "weather resistant" or something. I didn't really believe her until I got them out on the field. It's been about a month and a half and my feet have never been so dry. I'll be interested to see how they hold up when it gets crazy cold. (I hate having cold feet too...) I thought I'd just pass this information on to other football coaches, since I've gotten A TON off of this board over that past year or so... Here are some links that might lead you in the right direction: (I leave my shoes at the office over night, so I can't remember the exact model-- but I do remember it has something to do with the "Gore-Tex" feature Adidas carries...) www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_square.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442601268&emssrcid=GoogleBasewww.gore-tex.com/remote/Satellite/brands/men-adidasBy the way, I think I spent around 60 bucks for mine. Worth every penny so far... -- 48 --

Gore-Tex is a material. It's pretty bad ass, I had a gore-tex jacket way back when I was in the USMC and it rocked. Gore-tex boots even more so.
Gonna check these out.

I have also been wearing Merrells for a number of years. They are amazing. Very comfortable, easy to move in, and if you get the gore-tex (a must for me), waterproof. I now have a pair of salomons and they are nice too, but not as cushioned.
b/c of the gore-tex, i don't do anything outside (besides bare feet in the summer) without my merrells/salomans. A little pricey, but well worth it for dry feet.

Have been wearing gore-tex socks since '96 - feet stay dry. I get them out of cabelas. Only come in black. I have two pair in my ownership at all times.

You can also buy a can of spray on waterproofer from your local department store. A well applied coating will make your shoes very water tight for a season. Re-apply each year and you are good to go.

My age is lower than your number of posts.
BTW, those who know what time the Early Bird Special begins don't call them sandals....they call them thongs!

joboo59 said, "they call them thongs!" I'm not really sure. OK, what we have here is a failure to communicate.

"thongs"
You should have seen the look on the faces of our faculty when, in our first teacher meeting of the year circa 2003, the principle said that we would not be allowing the students to wear "thongs" and that we were to keep our eyes pealed for them and enforce the rule. I had never in my life, nor had many of the other teachers, heard them (flip-flops, shower shoes) referred to as thongs. We were all trying to figure out if he seriously wanted us to keep a diligent look out for thong underwear and report those students to the office.

OK everybody, I'm doing my part to hijack this thread. Funny story. First coaching position. I'm listening to the intercom to the 100 year old principal. He was attempting to raise the attendence at our JV game so he says..."I'd like all the athletic supporters to attend today's game." I still can hear what happened in that classroom, nearly 30 years later. OJW

Merrells are the best shoes I have ever owned. I have these: Rained at practice this week and my feet stayed dry (Gore-Tex). Also have a non-slip Vibram sole.

Non-slip Vibram sole...I have no idea what that is, but it sounds cool. Kinda like the "GI Joe with kung-fu grip."
